How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5782994 / ACQ85430239 Refrigerator Front Panel Display Assembly

I was able to gently pry out the old "box" with screwdriver and using an old credit card to protect the door edge. It took quite a bit of prying around the entire area, but came off without a problem ultimately. It would have been easier to have a second set of hands to hold the unit while removing and reinstalling the wiring plugs from the old to the new, but I was able to do it with one person. Screwdriver helped here as one of the plugs had a small catch that needed some pressure to release. Snapping the new unit in was relatively easy, but had to pay attention to the overall alignment to be sure it was in the exact right spot before putting pressure on it to snap it in. If you are careful and take your time this will not be a difficult install, just be patient as you are prying it out and snapping it back in. 

Replacing the assembly panel was easy, and the part worked great. 

I am so, so grateful to AppliancePartsPros.com for including the DIY videos with their parts schematics. "Simon" gave me the encouragement to tackle the repairs on my LG refrigerator myself. I simply listened to/watched the videos and replaced both the spring and the entire water/ice dispenser assembly. I will admit though, removing and replacing the dispenser assembly was a little challenging. I was very cautious not to break the plastic tabs. However, after completing the repairs I was very, very pleased with the results. Thanks again AppliancePartsPros.com! 

I ordered the entire water and ice dispenser and refrigerator control unit from AppliancePartsPros.com and then watched the video for the removal of the old one and installation of the new one, at least three times so that I had the sequence memorized and felt comfortable with the process. Thanks for providing that, by the way. Then I opened the breaker for the refrigerator and used TWO putty knives, not one ... 'cause sometimes you need the extra one to hold in place the work you had already done loosening the unit. Once the unit was out, I removed the wiring harness, noting that all of the plugs were unique (so I could not screw up putting it back together). Then I cleaned the inside of the refrigerator compartment with white vinegar (we had potassium salts build up from our water softener). After that, I hooked up the new unit and literally popped it in. Closed the breaker and reset the parameters to those we had set with the old unit. This was a very easy replacement. And I am so glad we found AppliancePartsPros.com. 

Take a photo of the model number call customer service and gave me the part price for the part. I ordered it watched a video did it myself for 10 minutes I was finished easy easy. Thanks I saved $$$$$$$$ 

I purchased the complete Front Panel Display Assembly and my husband and I switched it out. Used a couple of putty knives. A second set of hands is helpful. It looks brand new and I avoided the repair company and their two visits, as they do not get the serial number and bring the part. They charge for a diagnostic and a second repair visit. The video was helpful. 

We thought that it had to do with the ice and/or water switches. Instead of purchasing each part separately we opted to purchase the whole assembly. We watched a video of how simple it was to replace and it was. 

Disconnect the power to the appliance First Changed out the Front Panel Display Asm. We used a thin blade screwdriver to pop the old panel out. Unplugged everything on the panel, then plugged it back in. Insert the panel back in place. 

After reviewing various videos on the internet regarding my issue, I decided to replace the whole dispenser assembly due to the age of my refrigerator and the possibility of another part failure. After receiving my new dispenser assembly in record time I got right to it. It was just like the video said it would be (Simple)!!!! being careful you insert a putty knife into the seam along the bottom right and gently pry it out then work your way around and it pops right out. Next, all that's remaining is unplugging the 4 electrical connectors. After removing the old dispenser and a little clean-up it time to insert the new one. Very very simple, just snap the 4 electrical connectors back in (you can't make a mistake the connectors are all different) and lastly all that remains is inserting the dispenser assembly back in by gently pushing it in little by little around the outer edges and it's just that simple. FYI, don't forget to remove the refrigerator handle, turn off the ice maker and unplug the refrigerator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lastly, since you have your refrigerator out don't forget to clean the dust out of the coils 

YouTube videos led me to believe problem was the Ice Dispenser Micro Switch (Part Diagram #402E). Removal of the Display Cover Assembly disclosed extensive rust and gray scaly corrosion on most metal parts behind the Panel; and an orange slime on some of the plastic areas - assume from moisture condensation conditions inside the door panel. Cleaned the area as well as possible before disassembly of the micro-switch. Unfortunately, metal corrosion was so bad that a female wire connector inside the plastic micro-switch connector assembly broke off from the wire and came out fastened to one of the connector blades on the micro-switch. After evaluating possible cheaper jury-rigged solutions, decided to order the entire "Cover Assembly, display" part. AppliancePartsPros delivered the new part within two days. Assembly required only 4 easy snap-together wiring connections and back in business. Advise removal of left door handle (torx screw) to better access dispenser panel for removal. Determined afterward that the ice dispenser micro-switch was okay - corrosion buildup was preventing electrical current flow to the switch. Tools: Putty knife, Phillipshead screwdriver, Torx screwdriver.
