How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5200557 / AHL72914402 Rotor Assembly

All my Internet queries pointed to the rear set of bearings being at fault, so I ordered them from you guys along with a bearing seal and the large rubber gasket that joins the two parts of the basket. Your step by step video was amazing and all was reassembled without a left-over part! When I started a test wash, I noticed that the Rotor Assembly SPLINE teeth were totally stripped, and were the source of the noise! I ordered the rotor, overnight delivery, and replaced it the next day! Probably the bearings didn't need replacing, but I learned a lot about how the appliance works, so diagnosing the real problem was easy. I am grateful for your online videos! Oh, putting the rubber baffle that seals the basket against the door can be tricky. Make sure you clean the lips well, and lubricate the rubber with soap, to slip it unto the two lips. The one that fits on the basket is harder than the outer one! The metal spring rings that secures each side are also hard to secure to the grooves!! 

I found a Youtube video from AppliancePartsPros that explained how to replace the bearings. The video was excellent and allowed me to perform the service myself. It gave me a good idea of what tools I would need and how long it would take. The repair would've definitely been much more difficult without the video. The longest time was spent removing the old bearing collar as the inner part of the old bearing had totally disintegrated. I ordered the rotor assembly after initially ordering the replacement bearings. When I removed the rotor, I discovered several of the magnets had been damaged when the old bearing failed. We had a home appliance protection plan from one of utilities. I initially called them for service but they refused to do the repair as it would've taken too much time and cost too much for parts. I don't know where they were getting their parts from, but the parts from AppliancePartsPros were about a quarter of the cost of what the service company estimated. Needless to say, I cancelled the appliance protection plan. I've ordered parts for other appliances online but from now on, I'm ordering from AppliancePartsPros.

I went to You Tube and many other people had the same problem and they showed what was the problem and what to do to repair it. I've followed the instructions. We all pitched in and I ordered the part from you. Quite expensive too but it was worth it. Within 2 to 3 days, it was a quick delivery to my address which took me about 15 minutes to change out the part for the new one. Wham Bam! It's working. Boy, me and all family members were very happy of me to fix it. I was very satisfied with the fast delivery. Now we could finish all our piled up clothes with confidence and being much more careful washing loads. 

Removed access panel on the back of washer. Removed the one bolt on drive shaft and took bad rotor assembly off. New rotor assembly installed and washer runs like new. 

I saw a video clip that showed that the problem I had was the motor rotor and how to replace it. Was so simple to do. One bolt. So I ordered the part from Appliance Parts Pros, got it the very next day, and replaced the part. Very happy and will remember Appliance Parts Pros for the next repair. 

After a bit of research on my LG model on youtube, I believe my washer had two issues, the rotor assembly had worn out and the drain pump motor was broken. I confirmed this by watching videos on Appliance Parts Pros. I checked around and figured the two repairs would cost somewhere between $400-$700. Because my units are stacked and difficult to get to in a small room with shelves I decided to replace both parts the more expensive being the rotor. I may not have needed both for as long as it was out and apart I figured what the heck do both. The actual repair took about an hour and a half. The two hardest parts were getting the drain hose clamped onto the pump and getting the retaining spring back on the boot, but other than that it was easy and rewarding to know I fixed it myself and saved at least $250! Tip: Use your cell phone to take photos of things as you take them apart. Lay the parts (including screws) in a row with the first parts you take off the furthest away then reinstall them in reverse order using the photos on your phone. It's especially important to take pictures of the wiring harness and where which color wire connects to which lead. 

After some simple research I diagnosed the problem being the rotor and upon visual inspection it was confirmed. I used appliancepartspro.com before so I ordered the part during xmas rush and to my surprise it was delivered in a day and a half. Rotor replacement is very simple and takes less than 15 min. Runs like a champ now. Also called lg because the direct drive system was under warranty for 10 yr they said they would fix my problem $280 everything included. I fixed it for less than $75. 

Replaced the rotor assembly. applied thread lock to assure rotor bolt doesn't come loose again.
