How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP6027671 / 4434ER0002H Washer Tub Spider Assembly

Replaced both bearings, the seal and the spyder. Followed the video. To support the tub housing during bearing removal I cut out a 3 1/2 inch hole in a one inch board so I could pound out the rear bearing. I also put the bearings in the freezer and heated up the outer housing with a hair dryer before installing the new bearings. This made installation go easy. Door gasket is a pain to install. I put one foot squares of dynamat on the top,back and two sides to hopefully make it even quieter. It runs good and sounds quiet. 

My problem was a broken spider. I followed your excellent video, but have some additional input that should be incorporated in a new video showing the required upgrade procedures and parts required to repair an early model with damaged front tub half using currently available parts. Don't expect everything to go as easy as the video. 1) Used 4lb. brass hammer to drive shaft from bearings. 2) Torqued spider bolts to 20ft lbs. with thread locking compound. 3) attached rubber seal to front tub cover before attaching the balance weights. Do like the video says and use vise-grips. 4) The new required heating element has the thermistor mounted to it with nonmatching electrical connectors. Had to make a pigtail from the old thermistor wiring harness by attaching two small female blade connectors with crimp fittings. Excellent parts supplier to deal with. Received 12 parts from three different states in four days just before Christmas by FedEx for $7. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 

The repair video is great, but a couple of suggestions: There is a better way to remove the old bearings. To remove the first one use a 7/8 socket on an extension through the upper bearing to drive it out. Then use a 1 1/8" socket to drive out the other bearing. To replace the new bearings do not hammer on the bearing as shown in the video. Use the old bearing on top of the new bearing. Hammer on the old bearing to drive in the new. 

I was not the fixer my boyfriend Bill did all the work with the help of your video and now the washer is like new so far. I will have him expound on the details later. It took about 4 hours but as he said well worth it. I will guess at the tools We also used Appliance Pros to fix the dry about 2yrs ago. We are very happy to have found your site and service. I did the whole bearing replacement job including replacing the "spider". Dis-assembly and re-assembly went well with the Video as a guide. Piece of cake. My only concerns about the project is torque specs on bolts. For the most part they seemed to just go until it is tight, not super tight, just snug and tight. There is no such thing as super tight in plastic, it will pull the threads out if you over-tighten. I started in the evening and was able to stop at the point of letting the penetrating fluid soak over night then got back at it and finished it the next day. The original spindle would not pound out of my tub with wood blocks. I was shattering wood all over the basement so I eventually went to pounding right on the old spindle with a three pound sledge. I used penetrating liquid over night and still had to resort to the sledge. I had anticipated trouble and ordered the replacement spindle-spider with my bearings and seals. The unit is operating as it should. For installing the new bearings I used a brass drift tapping around the outside edges. Overall the job was not difficult but I have been a tinker for decades. Others may have more difficulty but follow the video and use logic and most people should be fine with this repair. The largest challenge is in the mind, the second was getting the spider spindle out of the old bearings. I used a twelve section muffin tin for the different screws and labeled them as I removed them. 

Dismantled the washer just like on the video to see what was wrong, then odered two bearings,two seals and one spider , installed all the parts and re-assembled it .it purrs like a kitten now. the hardest part was removing the old bearings. 

The Spider was apparently broken, so I made my way over to the AppliancePartsPros site. They had almost everything I needed ready for next day delivery! I got the parts as promised, and used the helpful videos to aid my repair. I ran into an issue where the old spider would not come out of the tub no matter how much I whaled on the shaft with a hammer and board. Since I was replacing the spider anyway, I took the hammer directly to the shaft, and eventually it came loose. The old spider had 2 out of the 3 arms broken! I then ran into an issue where the spider bolts just spun without loosening. I drilled out the bolt heads, removed the drum baffles, and took them apart to get the bolts out. After cleaning all the horrible built up gunk from everything, I replaced the bearings and seals, reassembled the machine, and it works as well as it did when we first bought it!

Inez is my mother and i her son that fixed it. Found this website as i was looking for parts my machine is 13 years old never had a problem with it so it was well worth repairing given the machines on the market now are junk do to 2015 federal regulations limiting the amount of water and power used. I have replaced bearing in other things before and the video helped with repairing the machine. So it doesnt take much skill just some penetrating oil and a good hammer and steel rod to remove the bearings. Couple things to point out wear gloves with tear down and reinstalling of the sheetmatal panels during. I got a bad cut unplugging the wire to to door latch. The next thing in the video supplied they use a chisel to set the new bearings. Do not do that, instead clean up old breaings and use the cleanest side to on top of new bearing and tap the new bearing in with the old bearing so that your striking the old bearing with the hammer not the new one. Using a chisel to set bearings like in this video is a easy way to cause damage to them or the race the set in. To appliance parts your packing needs improvement I will address that privately via email 

Replaced the spider. Had a problem getting one of the bolts out of the spider(stripped out). Cut bolt with a reciprocating saw. Had to replace baffle after cutting the spider bolt. Note: The spider was broken in 2 places. It appeared to have failed from galvanic corrosion. The inner tub and spider bolts are stainless steel and the spider is cast iron. LG needs to look at this design flaw.
