Nicholas V Belton , TX February 28, 2016 Appliance: LG Washer WM2016CW Loud banging during spin cycle burning smell when opening the front Initially I started out by going to replace the bearings but subsequently learned that my main issue wasn't the bearings but the spider! So naturally I did a search on YouTube and found a video that walked me through the process. It is a LONG process. It took me about 6 hours over 3 days to do the whole thing, including replacing the bearings. I ended up getting the wrong parts, but I called APP and they were able to get my RMA set up and get me the new parts. I was rather surprised to order the parts on Friday and get them on Saturday (with what I guess was standard delivery). In hindsight, I probably did not need to replace the bearings and could have just replaced the seal. The longest/hardest part is getting the bearings out. Once the bearings are replaced the unit comes back together pretty quickly. Everything is running very smoothly now and I hope to get another 7-8 years of service from this machine. Read More... Carlos S Trumbull , CT December 26, 2015 Appliance: LG Washer WM2016CW Machine started to shake and bang like crazy Even though I never touched a wash machine, I was able to fix mine after I came across APP site. I read some histories that matched mine and was able to identify the problem and the parts for the fix. Next step was to double check with the online chat people, mind that it happened during the weekend but they're there anyway, awesome. They gave me precise info and links for the parts that I end ordering next day (Monday) now the amazing part, this was 3 days before Christmas, I choose standard shipping and my FULL order was on my door by Wednesday noon even though one of the parts I ordered was in backorder. I'm impressed. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours Tools: Nut Drivers, Pliers, Screwdrivers, Socket Set, Wrench Set
Joseph S Upper Nyack , NY December 24, 2015 Appliance: LG Washer WM2016CW A wobbling washer drum that was chafing the plastic tank causing excessive vibration noise smoke at times and generating plastic shavings in the drum and clothing This job involves a complete disassembly of the machine. I used a U-Tube video to help with the process and I do have fairly good mechanical skills. The problem was first diagnosed as a worn bearing which I purchased prior to disassembling the machine. As it turned out the bearings were fine and the problem was a badly corroded and cracked Spider Bracket. The level of corrosion surprised me since the machine is only 5 years old but was probably caused by a combination of the poor quality of our local public water supply and the fact that the aluminum spider was mounted to a stainless steel drum and may have created a galvanic reaction. I wound up replacing the bearings and the spider and the machine is now working fine. Read More...
