How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4204358 / DC62-00156A Washer Tub Seal

It took a lot of dismantling to get to the problem but all and all it took a lot of work rough cost $200. 00 If you are mechanically inclined you should be fine. All the parts were great. The people at Appliance parts Pro were great to work with excellent customer service. 

Deduced that the cause was a failed bearing for the drum. Ordered spin bearings (both inner and outer). Although APP did not have a video showing bearing replacement, they did have a video on tub seal replacement that was adequate to get most of the way to bearing replacement. Did have an appliance repair company come out and assess the situation. They suggested replacing the entire drum, at a cost of $1500. Replacement parts purchased from APP were less than $200. Of course, the repair took several hours of personal time, but the repair went without issue, using the APP videos. 

The drum started hitting the tub and from the friction was burning the plastic. Lots of smoke! I went on "youtube" immediately guessing there would be something there about this situation. There is a great resource! I commenced by taking the washer apart far enough to see what needed to be replaced. I ordered the parts I observed as needed. They arrived as promised. The videos provided by APPros.com were a very helpful addition. The model we have contains many more hoses and other items than shown in AP's model. I spent a considerable amount of time cleaning the drum and other parts due to debris from the spider arm and biofilm along with mold that built up. This stuff is not visible without total disassembly. It explains why the smell would never go away no matter what we tried. The oozing mass of metal powder, biofilm, mold on the backside of the drum under what was left of the spider arm was something to behold. This is due to a bad choice of metal alloy by the manufacturer. The new part appears to be quite different. 

Watched a YouTube video of yours on possible cause of problem. After watching video on how to take washer apart , I realized the problem and could repair myself if I could find the parts. Appliance parts pro had all the needed items( spider assembly arm and all gaskets, and seals). I was not sure of being able to repair but after watching the video and live chatting with your representative it became a project to look forward too. Washing machine was down only 5 days from breakdown till repaired with appliance parts pro expediting the shipment (3days) 3 hours for tear down and cleaning, 2 hours to assamble with new parts. Thank you much for the instructional videos, I probably would not have attempted without watching them. Fred B. 

Followed your video on replacing the seal and then got the bearings out as well. The video showing steps how to take it apart and then put it together again was fantastic! 

Replaced spider arm and bearing seal . Bearings were in good shape, no signs of water getting past drum seal. 

Replaced bearings and spider hub. If your washer drum and the white outer plastic drum move independently even the smallest amount, your washer will not start spin cycle because it is unable to balance the load. The washer will attempt to balance by rotating the drum back and forth and add minutes until it gives up . There is a video on YouTube showing the removal and replace steps for the spider and bearings. The bearings are available online but not on this site. I purchased the seal and spider hub on this site. My strong recommendation is to by high performance bearings to replace the OEM KBC bearings. I use NACHI 6306zz, 6307zz. I rate this repair as mid-high difficulty. 

I was totally amazed that we were.able to do this repair ourselves (with the help of AppliancePartsPro's YouTube video). We researched, found and ordered the spider arm assembly, disassembled, repaired and reassembled the washer on our own. And it works again!! I'm so amazed!! Thanks AppliancePartsPro!!

Appliance Parts Pro had a great video showing what the most likely problem was and how to fix it. Using the video, I disassembled the washer and removed the suspect part (Spider Arm), which I found to be cracked. I order the needed parts on a Thursday afternoon and had the parts in hand on Saturday afternoon. Reassembly was straightforward and the washer now works like new. The most difficult part is the manhandling of the drum out and back into the washer. It is heavy and awkward for one person. All told, I probably spent about 6-hours on the project. There are a lot of steps involved. Quick service and a great video made it possible for me to do the repair.
