I’ve had this issue twice over the past few years. After disassembly of the dryer, there are 2 parts I’ve had go bad on the heater assembly (in the lower right of the cabinet). On the heater assembly side, you’ll find:
(1) High-Limit Thermostat DC47-00018A.
(1) Thermal Cut-Off Fuse DC96-00887A (this part is mounted on standoff)
Both of these parts shut off the heating element when the dryer overheats.
What I’ve found is the thermal fuse will show “open” on an ohm meter. The thermostat will probably show “low ohms” on the ohm meter (less than 4 ohms). You might think… well, the thermostat looks fine….BUT….. replace BOTH items.
I’ve had this SAME thing happen every time. The thermal fuse blows, because the thermostat does NOT open when it reaches its high temp limit. So the element will continue heating until the thermal fuse blows (goes open). When you remove the thermostat, you may hear it rattling inside.
If you’ve taken the time to disassemble the dryer, it’s cheap insurance to replace both parts.
BTW: I did NOT have any lint clogged in the exhaust pipe, or ducting. The air flow was not restricted. I ordered both parts from Appliance Parts Pro, received them the next morning, and from start to finish, it took me less than 1/2 hr to repair. ALWAYS remember, to unplug the dryer from its electrical outlet before servicing ANY appliance. Thank you for reading my post. I hope this helps you.
