How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006371 / WP22003593 Washer Door Latch Assembly

After watching the video I thought it was simple enough I could do it! I am a mom of 4 yes I said 4 very active small children and it took less time to change part out than it would've taken me to load laundry and kids up to drive to laundry mat! Took seriously under 20 minutes start to finish ?? 

This is the third time I've replaced the locking assembly- I'm getting faster and faster at it now! I removed the door - 4 screws total, 2 for door, 2 for the placeholders on the other side of the opening (so you can remount the door to open the other way if desired.) I pulled the front panel forward and up to remove. I took out two bolts that keep the top of the washer secure. I removed the soap dispenser tray(4 screws). I took out two bolts mounting the locking mechanism and swapped out with the new part. There were 4 electrical connections to plug in. 

I have a Maytag Neptune front load washer, years ago Maytag replaced the door seal under a warranty recall. The machine holds water in the drum and the door boot seal grows mold. When the door broke I was almost happy because it would force me to buy another machine. However when I started to research new machines, the price and fact that the quality of the new machines was probably inferior led me to explore fixing the machine. The local service company charges $190 to diagnose, I wasnt interested investing in an old mold infested machine. My next search led me to google "broken door" and that is when I found your repair video for the door. It gave me the confidence to go take my machine apart, once I accomplished that I then googled mold on door seal and found a video on replacing the door seal. I then ordered both parts which arrived within a few days, the videos where inspirational in leading me to fix the machine myself. Thank you for great customer service and fast delivery. 

Ordered part and watched your video. Was a snap. Did all by myself without my husband helping. Would highly recommend this site. Will use again. I saved myself a service charge!!! 

Read the feedback from other people, it became obvious it was the door latch assembly needed replacing. Almost called a repairman so glad i didn't. 

Ordered the door latch assembly for it. 

I purchased the door latch assembly and installed it myself. Through my own mistake, the first one ordered was the incorrect part number (there were two different ones available). I was able to submit a return and order the correct one the same day. I ordered the part at 3pm Thursday and it arrived by noon Friday with overnight shipping. Had I not been able to fix it that Friday night, my wife may have made me purchase a new washer! The repair itself took around an hour, but most of that was because I was cleaning parts and areas of the washer while disassembling. Also, it took me while to align the front panel to properly align with the clips to snap back into place (one clip was bent). It really is a 20-30 min job max if you are working efficiently. Great video instructions and everything is back to normal! 

Purchased a door latch assembly,and watched your how to do it video. Very well explained and made it very easy to replace. 

Removed door, removed front panel, lifted top panel and replaced the assembly. Was a 10 minute process. 

I figured out that the problem was the latch. I entered my model and serial #s. I chose the part that I needed and was treated to a video on how to do the job and what I would need for tool This saved me hours of trying to reason the job out on my own. Installed the part and now the washer is like new again. The new latch even came with a light bulb. I had not expect this and ordered a new bulb. But now I have a spare!!
