At first I thought it would need a new motor, but as I couldn't hear anything at all when the start button was pressed, I researched further, and thought a broken belt might be the problem. As it turned out, the belt tensioner has a simple mechanical cut-off switch for when the belt breaks and the tenisoner flips down due to the spring pulling on it. That explains why the light was still working, but the motor wasn't making any sound whatsoever. The videos at the appliancepartspros site, along with some others on youtube were super helpful to figure out how to get the front of the dryer opened up, and remove the drum (from which the belt was gone). This is a fairly simple repair. The hardest part is getting the clips loosened to pop up the control panel. You need quite a lot of force to get them loose, so its important to have confidence and PUSH HARD! After that is done, its simple to remove the panel screws and open it all up (and just as simple to put it back together). I ordered the new belt, the web site did a great job to ensure I found the right one by entering the model number of my 20 year old Kenmore dryer. I ordered the part on Thursday, and the site said it would arrive Monday, but once FedEx send me the tracking number I saw it would be delivered on Saturday, so we were up an running a few hours after the part was delivered.
