How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5983729 / 661570V Whirlpool Drive Belt

Followed the how to video, it wasn't exactly my model, however it did help. 

The frequency of the "rumble" was slower than the motor speed and faster than the drum speed. I concluded it was the rollers -- specifically, the lower, rear roller. Since I was going to replace one and planned to pull the drum, I decided to replace all 4 rollers. I also replaced the drum belt while I had access (although it appeared to be in good shape). I did not replace the roller shafts. I figured the hardened steel shafts should be good for life. I took the dryer apart from the back side. I later noticed the video which did it from the front. I would probable do it from the front if I had to do it again. Oh, BTW, it works great now! It only rumbles when I'm actually drying my sneakers! 

Changed it. 

Got sick of waiting on my husband to fix my dryer and hated dragging my clothes to my in-laws. I decided to unplug and take my dryer apart and find the problem. Once I did, I got on to appliancepartspros.com, found my parts and ordered them. Then as soon as I received my parts I watched the video they sent with my email to show what I purchased (very handy) and put the parts on and reassembled my dryer! Who says a woman needs a man to fix stuff! I am woman and don't mess with me!! Haha 

Easy to complete the repair following the videos available on the website. The front trim was a bit different than demonstrated, but probably because of model years changes. Otherwise, it was easy to diagnose the issue and install the replacement. Shipping was immediate also. I ordered on Monday morning, and had the part at my door Tuesday afternoon. 

I isolated the problem to the belt idler wheel by spraying lubricant on different components until the noise stopped. I also noticed the belt was starting to crack. I removed the idler wheel arm and cleaned it up and put a dab of grease on the wheel shaft. I then re-installed the arm, and the problem was solved, at least short term. I then ordered a replacement idler wheel and a belt, anticipating that I will need to replace these items sometime in the relatively near future. 

I first found the thermal fuse bad during my first diagnosis, I ordered the part, well this is only a safety and running the dryer finally showed the real problem was the drums rollers were bad. My wife has now been without a dryer for two days, that night before bed she told me we would either have to go tomorrow to a laundromat our come up with our own clothes line in the back. So the next morning I found some old rope in the garage, by the time i finished the clothes line the delivery man showed up at the front door WOW overnight delivery, all the parts were right and thats because of the full proof way of using pictures. I used a great online repair service which helped me diagnose the problem. After viewing the online videos they sent, I ordered the parts from Appliance Parts Pros, using their 2-day option, for, with a large family, I needed my dryer. It was pretty straightforward to install the defective parts and watch the video backwards to put the dryer back together. My future engineering high school son helped me take apart the dryer while I labled the screws and placed them in small bathroom dixie cups. 

Ordered the parts !!!! Replaced them and it work like new!! Thank you ... 

I ordered the support rollers shown in the exploded diagram, and I also ordered the corresponding roller shafts, and the drum belt. The video was extremely useful and made the job easy. I immediately determined that the shafts were fine (no roughness or misshape), so these will be returned. The problem was that the diagram shows only two rollers needed, when in fact, a total of 4 rollers (two in the back and two in the front) are required. I should have realized that the drum can't roll properly on just two rollers. I replaced the two rear rollers, and will order two more rollers for the front (no need to remove the drum to replace the front rollers which are mounted to the front of the cabinet). The drum now rolls like factory new, but I still plan to pull off the front cover and replace the two front support rollers. I will also be ordering some triangular roller keepers, as one of mine has cracked on one side.
