How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5983729 / 661570V Dryer Drive Belt

Replaced belt (22 years old) which was cracked and brittle. Inspected idler pulleys/rollers and just cleaned. Thoroughly vacuumed the dryer base and motor. I used a small ratchet driver that comes with cheap socket sets. The drive fits the screws with no socket. Kenmore gas model requires removing lower front panel and the 4 screws along the top back the slide the top forward. 

I watched the video produced by appliance pros regarding drum support roller replacements for my Whirlpool Duet gas dryer and upon opening the unit, observed the tensioner arm roller lying on the bottom, off of the arm! Ordered the roller from appliance pros along with a replacement drum belt and upon delivery of the parts had everything replaced, dryer put back together and running within 25 minutes! Extremely easy project from start to finish, just wish I would have known from the beginning that the tensioner arm roller was broken as well. 

Purchased dryer drum belt with outstanding next day service from AppliancePartsPros.com. Watched the crystal clear instructional video linked to the part ordered on the website twice. Installed the belt in less than an hour.

Replaced blower wheel and belt. Also, plastic trim on dryer door was cracked.

After looking up the problem on the internet I figured it was either the thermal fuse or the drum belt. After following your great video on taking the dryer apart I discovered the dryer belt was broken after just removing the lid. I ordered the part from your website and the belt showed up quickly. After following the video instructions I took the dryer apart (with my kids help- 8 and 10 y.o.) and replaced the drum belt as instructed. It was easy and being able to review the video over a few times at certain steps gave me and my kids confidence we could do the job. We replaced the belt and put the dryer back together and did a load of laundry that evening to prove what a great job we did- dad was very impressed when he got home from his trip and we saved him the $175 visit from the repair man. I would recommend your products based upon the fast service and the quality of your videos to help lay people try to do the job themselves. So far the belt is working wonderfully. 

I immediately got on your site. Had worked on the machine before and was well acquainted with how to take it apart. (britishjames.com has videos of taking this machine apart.) Checked continuity with multimeter of the push to start switch, the thermal fuse and the door switch assembly. All ok!!! Then I noticed the belt out of line. "What's this?" The belt had snapped. I had not heard/noticed that the motor did run when the button was pushed. Put the machine back together till the part showed up, which it did TWO DAYS LATER. You guys are real pros! Installed the belt and immediately threw other load into the washer, knowing I could dry it. Thanks for your fast shipping. It is a great inconvenience being without a dryer in this climate: rain, snow, cold!

From a complete tear down of my whirlpool duet dryer to the simple steps along the way made this repair simple.
