I pulled the refrigerator out, removed the back panel, disconnected the fan motor. I did not know how hard or easy it would be to remove the fan from the motor shaft so I removed the motor with the fan attached and then removed and replaced the fan. This would not be necessary if you have a lot of strength, but if you need leverage to push the fan down on the shaft you might want to disconnect and remove the motor fan assembly too. After replacing the motor assembly and reconnecting I tested by plugging in momentarily and then replaced the back and pushed the refrigerator back. (This is also a good time to clean the coils underneath, vacuum out the dust, and clean behind the refrigerator)
