How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013434 / WP8572717 Capacitor

I replaced the direct drive motor coupling and the capacitor. Unfortunately, the drive shaft on the motor and the transmission were rusty so the coupling was difficult to get off. I managed to do so by prying with a flathead screwdriver and hammer. The capacitor was very easy to change. 

I initially had some difficulty getting the machine back up and running. But then I contacted a “pro” at AppliancePartsPros. He said he wasn’t sure but thought it might be the capacitor. Well, he was absolutely correct and it worked out extremely well. Thanks AppliancePartsPros!! 

Replaced motor start capacitor. 

Watching your videos and troubleshooting tips determined it was a failed (26 year old) capacitor. Ordered a capacitor and installed it, the washer now works fine. Also previously replaced the washer lid switch and timer with your parts. The washer was full of water, so could not turn the washer over to replace the capacitor, and the 26-year-old screw securing the capacitor bracket was hard to get at and out (bracket is curved, so no straight shot at screw with nut driver). Had to use a mini ignition wrench (SAE) with a cheater extension to loosen the capacitor bracket screw, installation of a new capacitor was reversed of this process. I checked the internet and found videos from AppliancePartsPros.com and determined what my possible problems were so I took it apart and sure enough I found the problem, the washer motor had a direct drive ( no belt) and the coupling was damaged. When I disconnected the motor and the capacitor wires, I noticed that the capacitor appeared to be coming apart, I mean the guts pulled out and were loose so I decided to replace that part also. The agitator dogs located within the top section of the agitator were damaged and in pieces so these were also replaced. My recommendation is to watch the videos and go from there. 

Removed motor and found plastic motor coupling broke. Ordered new coupling, reassembled, works great! I ordered the parts from appliancepartspros at 4pm and the parts arrived the next day with no crazy shipping charges! 

I diagonesed my problem with the Help of a Video I found thru this siteappliancepartspros.com . Had to tear the whole washer apart but it was really simple. The Video gave you the "heads up on all" Tear-down an the put back together. It took me about and hour and fifteen minutes. 

I ordered a new one from AppliancePartsPros.com and followed their video instructions. 

I went on youtube.com and looked up what could be wrong. It sounded like the capacitor had stopped working. I went to AppliancePartsPros.com and looked for a capacitor then watched the video about changing it. I ordered the part and installed it when it arrived 3 days later.
