How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3872692 / 8201756 Broken Tab Ice Door Kit

Recommended the Broken Tab Ice Door Kit by your sales representative, which was easy to install and highly recommend the kit to any one who has a similar problem. It was a very inexpensive repair kit, since the Dispenser housing has to be bought as a complete unit, and for a few more dollars could have bought a new frig. The recommended kit is the way to go. Thanks for the great suggestion and a sincere thanks to the young lady who helped and whose name I am sorry do not recall. 

After a web search on the problem, the APP site came up. After finding what I thought was the part, (icemaker door assembly),I ordered it, then realized that I needed the full assembly. UIsed chat to verify the correct part and cancel the previous oder. Chat pro was excellent and answered my questions. Part arrived next day. Install too me about an hour. The key things are: take a picture of each step during diassembly because the pics in the instructions are vey small, read each step carefully, as you do each step it becomes clearer how the next step goes, pics may not exactly resemble yours exactly, as stated in other reviews, make several practice placement on the bracket before removing the adhesive coverings, Very pleased with the result. The bracket to replace the broken tabs is ingenious. 

Ordered Broken Tab Ice Door Kit and replaced all parts. Pretty straight forward....watched a couple of youtube videos that were close to the same model as mine just to get an idea on how to do the project. Instructions provided the most help with the exception of the bracket support clip picture didn't show tab well and still not sure if I put it on backwards or correctly (but it works fine either way). Also instructions made it easy to get ahead of yourself and miss the note stating NOT to remove the adhesive on the lower surface of the new metal bracket w/tabs. Other than that it went smoothly and if I had to do it again, it would probably only take about 20 minutes. Scott (the try to fix it first guy) 

I purchased the ice door repair kit.The replacement of the ice dispenser door went well.However, I did have to adjust the metal tab replacement plate.After the initial placement, the pin would not go in the holes because they were not lined up well.However, after a small adjustment, the repair went in smoothly.If you do this repair yourself it is helpful to make sure you have the holes lined up properly by threading the pin through the holes and adjusting the plate before you do it with the door and spring attached. 

It was not looking good. I could not order the part I needed as it was part of the door - eve though it had screws att Hong it to the freezer door. At one web site it was a replacement of the whole freezer door!/? Luckily I ventured further and found this repair kit and video instructions. My order arrived in 3 days, and the install (thanks to the video) was easy. A whole lot better than buying a new freezer door - not! BTW - Whitlpool should not have made the tabs out of plastic, the metal bracket the repair kit uses will never break. 

I learned that on my particular whirlpool side by side fridge/freezer that whirlpool discontinued I would not be able to buy the shell insert that was needed. Luckily after speaking with one of the appliance parts pro staff they were able to inform me that they had their own fix for my problem. Instead of having to purchase an entire shell (which wasn't possible due to whirlpool holding the patten) I was able to purchase a kit that Appliance Parts Pros came up with. Unfortunately this repair didn't have an online "video repair" segment to watch but with the included instructions I was able to make the repair. 

I ordered the Broken Tab Ice Door Kit after chatting with the rep on your website and assuring the part would fit on my model fridge. Install instructions were included in the kit. I watched several videos online to replace the ice door and water lever just to get an idea of what I was dealing with( there is no video showing the actual replacement of the kit ). The most difficult part was inserting the pin/spring assembly into the new bracket due to the tension on the spring...you have to insert the left side first and wedge the other side in ( I used a screwdriver to push it in over the metal tab). Overall, I would rate it an easy repair job which should take 20-30 minutes. 

Another home run for these guys. I ordered the repair kit with regular shipping and had it less than 2 days later. I ran their YouTube video on my iPad as I made the repair, and it was invaluable. I never would have been able to make the repairs using the crummy instructions that Whirlpool included with the repair parts. Everything is in and works great. One suggestion -- use rubbing alcohol to clean off the underside of the ice compartment where you stick on the new bracket. Alcohol is one of the best solvents for virtually any use, and it will get the surface completely clean. 

The app parts pros' video was very helpful. The only glitches I had were due to small design changes that didn't match the video. No biggie. My advice to any other novice like me is when disassembling your project, take photos with your phone during each step. They'll be very helpful when putting things back together.
