The Broken Tab Ice Door Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This kit includes all the necessary components to repair or replace the ice door chute, which is responsible for dispensing ice from the ice maker to the ice bucket or directly to the user. The ice door chute must seal properly to prevent warm air from entering the freezer compartment, which can lead to frost and ice buildup.

Symptoms of a failing or broken ice door chute include:

  • Ice accumulating around the ice dispenser chute
  • Frost buildup in the freezer compartment
  • Warm air leaking into the freezer, causing temperature fluctuations
  • The ice door not closing properly or becoming stuck
  • Unusual noises from the ice dispenser area

Causes of a broken ice door chute can include regular wear and tear, physical damage from mishandling or excessive force, or deterioration of the sealing components over time.

This OEM part is also compatible with some models from Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore.

This kit is used if the ice door mounting tabs are broken off of the dispenser wall. If your model number uses this ice door WP2180353 or this ice door kit W10823377 this kit can be used.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Broken Tab Ice Door Kit (Part Number: OEM11618085)

1 Answer

Charles, it would be recommended that the door chute is inspected for any air gaps that could be causing the ice to freeze together at the bottom of the ice bin. If there is an air gap, the chute door WP2180353 may have a slight warp or the dispenser door spring WPW10224328 may be weakening too much. If there is not an air gap, the ice bucket coupling W11629923 and auger motor shaft WP2188917 would need to be inspected for indications of rounding out.

David, If you are replacing the ice door kit then the keeper will not be needed. Otherwise we will need to have the model number of the refrigerator to be able to locate the keeper.

Sarah for Model Number ED5PVEXWS05

Hi, I have a whirlpool fridge .. the ice machine works but when i push the door to dispense the ice nothing happens therefore I am getting ice by opening the freezer and physically grabbing the cubes. Do you think this kit will fix the problem or do you think it is a motor issue? I’m not wanting to spend a lot on this. Is there a way I could check to see if there’s a motor issue before i just buy this kit? I want to make sure I’m buying the right thing

Hello Sarah, you did not mention if the water dispenser was also working or not.If it is not, check if the dispenser lockout switch is on. If it is dispensing water check the ice dispense lever as it has to press on a switch in the dispenser housing to power the auger motor for ice dispense.

Clive for Model Number KSSC42QTS00

I am writing about the Broken Tab Ice Door Kit (part number AP3872692) which is listed as a compatible part for my refrigerator (KitchenAid model KSSC42QTS00). I don't see how this can be right. This kit is used for the models in which the ice door opens via the mechanical action of pushing the glass into the dispenser. My model has a push pad that activates the ice dispenser via an electric signal, and a small motor opens the ice door. This is a completely different mechanism. My problem is that the bracket which holds the ice door and the motor I mentioned (part number AP6022812) onto the main housing of the ice dispenser (part #1 in the diagram--not available) can no longer be secured to the housing because the plastic surrounding one of the screw holes broke and split. So the bracket is loose, causing the ice door to not close tightly, causing warm air to enter, melt the ice, block the chute, etc. Do you know if Whirlpool has produced a part similar to AP3872692 but which is intended for my model? If not, is there another way to solve this problem?

Hello Clive, you are correct that part AP3872692 does not fit your model. You can contact Customer Service at 1-877-477-7278 to discuss this. As far as the dispenser housing, it is actually part of the entire freezer door and as such is not available as a separate part, The freezer door is no longer available as it has been discontinued by the manufacturer.
