How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3103581 / 4318273 Door Switch Kit

The dishwasher was a 32-year-old Kenmore. I ordered a new Door Switch with a wiring harness. The old connector was corroded. When I removed the inner panel to access the door switch, I noticed that the metal frame had completely rusted through and would no longer hold the outer control panel. I patched it with some scrap lumber and duct tape, replaced the door switch and wiring, and put the inner panel back on. Works fine now. Hopefully, we'll get another 32 years out of it. 

I ordered the Door Switch Kit. Followed the instructions plus watched a video on how to change it. It was really easy! 

I ordered a new door switch kit from APP and fixed the problem in about 15 minutes. Simply removed the front door panel, removed the electrical cover, unplugged from the old door switches (they were burnt out bad!!!), removed the old switches, replaced them with the ones from the kit, stripped the old wires, reconnected them to the junction from the kit, and plugged in the new kit. Then replaced the electrical cover and front door panel and it was good as new. **Make sure you turn off the power to the dishwasher. Mine is hardwired, so I had to use the circuit breaker. If yours is not mapped, save yourself a headache and get a circuit breaker finder. I picked one up at home depot and found the right circuit breaker switch in less than 5 minutes.

After watching a few videos that gave me some idea of what to expect when replacing the defective switch, I removed the door switch. Replaced it with the new switch per the video instructions. I did have some difficulty re-assembling the door on the 25 year old Kenmore Unit. It required an extra set of hands and some 2 part epoxy to repair plastic screw mounts that failed. Overall, I found the job to be an easy repair. 

I replaced the micro switches for the door switch on my dishwasher switch. 

Order a door switch kit. Note: it came on time. The instruction was very easy to follow and in a matter of 30 min. I save a few $$$$$ and the dish washer is working fine. Thanks
