How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014070 / WP9760774 Oven Broil Element

Replace DC element with part ordered from Appliancepartspros. Repair video on web site made this an easy DIY repair, saving the high cost of a service call. 

It was simple. The video provided on the site was instruction enough. Just removed 10 screws and unsnapped the screws and it was out. Did the reverse and it was back in. 

Replaced the heating element 

Replaced with new 

My son first watched an you tube video. Disconnected power from the electrical panel. Unscrewed old element. Screwed in new element. Turned power back on. Super easy took no more than 10 minutes. 

On our Superba, there is no 'remove the back'. It's a solid internal cavity. Here's how to do it: 1) Take the door off (have help, watch the video. It's awkward but not hard 2) Have a buddy help you, support the old burner, take out the two upper screws, and the two rear screws 2a) Put one or two screws to hold the upper heat shield in place while you work 3) Slide burner out. Takes some wiggling and pulling, be gentle but confident (it can sense your fear) 4) Use needle nose pliers, do not grab the space by the head, grab the neck, wiggle/jiggle the spades off 5) They will retract but should not slip back into the unit. 6) Install the new unit, have someone hold it at about 160 degrees and hook up each spade. They will have to switch sides with you. 7) Be careful on re-inserting, Elements are fragile 7a) A headlight is helpful, I just did it with the oven on... don't turn the oven on while working :D 

KitchenAid Double in-wall oven. Secured power. Removed 2 screws securing element to oven roof and 2 screws securing element to rear wall. Carefully removed broken element and secured 4 wires with twisty-ties. Detached wires, making sure they did not slip back into back wall opening. Attached wires to new element and pushed it and heat shield back into place. UNFORTUNATELY, one of the wires became detached. Next call was to a local expert with a special double-oven dolly. We removed the oven doors and then secured the element/shield into place. We removed the unit, replaced all 4 end connections and found one unrelated defective connection and replaced that. Re-installed. The CAN be an easy task but my advice: Call the expert FIRST! 

This was a DYI project. It went well. Thank goodnesd for YouTube. The product was delivered on time and worked properly. 

Removed old burner pretty much per video on your website, definitely saw the need to put some tie wraps on the connector wires going back into the back wall of the oven, but the wires on one side were so short that when old element was unscrewed, the weight of the element allowed it to pull loose from one side's connectors before the tie wraps could even be applied. Luckily, the connectors could still be accessed with needle nose pliers. Definitely needed 3 to 4 hands working together to get the new unit installed with such short wires, and sure could have used a video on how to remove the oven door before starting the project, because this oven was the top unit on a two oven / warmer combination mounted in a cabinet enclosure. (Would have been totally screwed it the wires on one side had not been accessible for pull back with pliers!) 

My Wife shows me that only half of her broiler element was heating up so I punched in the model number and ordered the new element. I watched the video and easily installed the new one. When I turned it on it still did the same thing. The stove was only a couple years old and top of the line all electronic digital. I don’t cook and I never used the stove so I pulled the manual out of the sealed bag since new and read the instructions. Seems there is a half broil setting which she must have hit while cleaning the screen. I set it to full broil and it worked fine. She still says Im a hero for fixing her stove. What can I say.
