How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014070 / WP9760774 Oven Broil Element

Replaced element. Used the critical tip in the video: Wrap twist ties around the wires so they don't fall back behind the oven wall. 

The provided video made it easy to know what to do. The warning about using long twist ties to secure the connectors so they wouldn't pull back into the holes was very good to know. A few screws allowed it to be removed, and the new one went on easily. Not removing the door saved some time, but made it a little awkward to reach the connectors at the back, but it worked for me. The oven is working perfectly now. 

Replaced the broil element. Easy fix. Ten minutes. 

The top broiler burner was coming on only half way. One part of it would heat up but the other half did not. I removed the burner which was easy enough just by unscrewing four screws at the top. I unhooked the electrical connections. I then checked the burner for for conductivity and found that the inner burner had burned out. Replacing the burner was easy enough except one of the wire connections had broken off. I replaced it and made all the connections and the broiler worked. 

Removed the two screws holding the element into the ceiling of the oven. Gently removed the wires from where they are connected on the rear of the element. I did make a mistake and one of the wires fell into the cavity of the cabinet behind the oven. I had to remove all the screws and trim pieces and totally remove the oven from its wall cavity. Had to re-thread the wires back through the small holes and used wire twists (baggie ties from the grocery store) to hold them in place inside the oven itself. Re-Installed the oven back into the wall cavity, attached the wires to the element and re-installed the screws holding the element to the ceiling of the oven. That's it - Way better than spending all the extra money on the pro's. I will use them when I am over my head. 

I removed the 4 screws that held the element in place with the oven door still attached. I attached some twist wire to the connectors so that they would not fall behind the oven’s rear wall. I had a harder time installing the new element assembly with the oven door attached, so I decided to remove it. That made it easier to reach in and attach the new assembly. All 4 connections were simply attached and the assembly was screwed into place. 

Ordered correct part for my wall oven. Watched video. Easy install. Works perfectly. 

I replaced the broiler element. It might be the easiest oven repair. Four screws and four electrical connectors. Mine did not come with the mounting bracket toward the front of the element, but I was able to transfer the bracket from my existing unit. The front bracket is required because it has two mounting screws in it. I did check the resistance on both the new and old elements and the old element did not show much deterioration, but I swapped them any how. The new element immediately glowed brightly where the old element seemed to warm slowly and never achieve full heat. 

I purchased part # AP6014070 (WP9760774) for my Kitchen Aid KEMS378SSS00 Oven/Microwave. First turn off the breaker to your oven. After removing the oven racks and door I removed 2 screws holding the oven temperature sensor and pull it down slightly so it would not be in the way of removing the upper coil. I removed the 4 screws holding the upper coil and very gently pulled the coil out from the back oven wall exposing the wires and connectors. Before disconnecting the spade connectors from the coil, I attached an alligator clip to the rear of each spade connector to prevent the wire from being pulled back into the rear of the oven where it would be out of reach. The previous step is extremely important otherwise you might have to remove the entire oven to access the wires from the back of the oven. Gently remove each spade connector from the coil and then attach the new coil. Make sure each spade connected is securely attached so it doesn't come off when reinserting the new coil back into the oven. Fasten the coil to the oven top and lastly fasten the oven sensor. Install the racks and oven door, turn the breaker back on and turn your oven on to verify everything is working as it should.
