How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6285721 / W11177741 Dishwasher Door Seal

My Whirlpool dishwasher was leaking out the bottom of the door. I replaced the gasket and the lower door seal. When I ran a test wash, it was still leaking. After reading more online, I found that it could be a cracked washer arm. The initial inspection of the washer arm looked normal but when I used my faucet to slowly pour water into the inlet of the arm, I noted that water was leaking through a seam and not just the holes where it should come out. I then tried running a wash without the lower washer arm in place and I had no leaks. I ended up ordering a new arm. Once that was installed there have been no leaks. My advice if you are having the same problem is to try removing the washer arm and start a cycle before you assume it is the seals. (my seals did not appear to be damaged but I assumed they were the problem) It might save you a bit of time. 

I replaced the door seal, and that fixed the leak. Took about 5 minutes to do. Before ordering the seal, I had tried cleaning the seal with a sponge, leveling the dishwasher using the screws at its feet, and tightening all the torx screws around the door. None of those had fixed it; the seal was just bad.

I tried replacing the float switch, door gasket, bottom gasket and float. I finally replaced the lower wash arm even though inspecting it revealed no plugged holes or cracks. This fixed the problem. Even if it appears to be OK internally there are several gears that turn to control the water going into the holes. If this gets broken water will splash under the door and overflow the drip pan. The lower wash arm is a 1 minute fix no tools required. I should have replaced this first. 

I watched the YouTube video from AppliancePartsPros that indicated the problem was most likely the front door seal. I ordered the appropriate part from AppliancePartsPros which was shipped almost immediately and arrived three days later. The part shipped was a genuine Whirlpool part. Installation required no tools, took about 10 minutes, and solved the problem. A service call from any appliance repair shop would have been a 3 week wait with a service call cost of $50 just to come out with parts and labor costs on top of that. Saved a lot of money and no wait.
