How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008281 / WP3387747 Dryer Heating Element

Four screws exposed the heating element. two screws removed the front panel and two other screws removed the front bracket holding the element chamber in place. the rear of the chamber has a small lip on it and I had to rotate the chamber to get the lip over the edge in the back of the dryer. I also labeled the wires on the side of the chamber so I would put them back in the4 right place. a fifth screw held the element in the chamber. its close to the plug. have a shot vac ready to clean out all the lint. putting everything back together took all of 5 minutes. Total repair time was about 25 minutes. I've not replaced an element in about 25 years so I took my time breaking things down. 

Ordered a dryer heating element from ApplianceParts Pros.com, replaced burned out element with new part and now dryer working great. Hardest part was getting the shroud out of small space, making sure I reconnected 6 wires exactly the same way before I removed them. Your company videos helped greatly, as I am a novice 

My 20 year old son and I used videos on the Internet to help us properly disassemble the dryer. We then tested the voltage (or lack thereof) on the old heating element. We ordered and quickly received a new heating element from Appliance Parts Pros. The price was cheaper than buying the same part from Sears which charged more with an additional $10 in shipping. Once installed, we reassembled the dryer, plugged it in and then turned it on. I am happy to report that we fixed the problem and the dryer heated up perfectly. There was an expected burning smell for a few minutes which disappeared completely after running the dryer. I am thrilled to have saved hundreds of dollars for this fairly quick fix! A comparable replacement would have cost $500 while a Sears repair would have been over $250. My cost was only $60! By the way, I am a 56 year old woman. 

Took off the front panel, removed one screw from a panel and one screw and two wires from the heating element, and put an ohmmeter across the terminals. There was no continuity, so replaced the element --- a matter of sliding the old one out, sliding the new one in, putting the wires back on and securing with the screws. Whole thing took about 10 minutes. 

I ordered the heating element on a Monday morning. It arrived the next day and I had prepared by watching a how-to video and gathering the tools. I took everything apart, a total of five screw removals, pulled out the element, cleaned out the tremendous amount of lint around the area( everyone should check the lint levels!) and found about 1.82 in lost coins. I had to make sure to line up the new element exactly right, so that took two tries, but everything went back together and I was out about 1 1/2 hours of total time and not out the money it would have cost to have a repairman come out. Bragging rights, a working dryer, and money for a coke? not a bad outcome.

Replaced the heating element and the Thermistor. 

At peak of tax season, some few days before 4/15, this accountant's wife proclaimed the dryer didn't work. No heat. I went to AppliancePartsPros.com to determine what possible problem there might be. Without having excess time, I took a stab that it probably was the heating element, and ordered one. The price of the part was not so huge that I felt uncomfortable ordering one, wiothout fully diagnosing problem. The part arrived promptly, and after 4/15, I took part to dryer. Needed a flat head screwdriver to undo plastic clips to pull front panel away, and gain access to dryer insides. Found the heating element, used a nut driver to remove cover. Pulled the old element out, and could see the break in the coil. Replaced with the new element, and done. Replaced cover, and front panel, tested dryer, worked fine now. No more than 15 minutes. Used multimeter to test thermal fuse, thermostat and heating element. Heating element was bad. Easy to replace. Go in from the front, its impossible to pull the heating element out from the rear panel. Also use the opportunity to clean the inside of the dryer. Lots of lint. 

Replaced the thermal fuse and heating element. Cleaned out the lint.
