How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6037202 / W10918546 Oven Igniter

Installed new igniter. The entire fix only took 20 minutes. After I ordered the part it arrived at my house in less than 24 hours. 

Learned that ignitor serves two functions 1) ignite the gas 2) open a valve to let gas flow to oven Big tip that helped me- A few ovens have an auto shutoff valve that fails. Closed when ignitor fails thus preventing gas from entering oven. Despite replacing ignitor, this valve can be opened manually. Mine was on the main valve on back of oven at the bottom that had one line going to burners and one going to oven. Make sure you check that as well. New ignitor glowed hot, no gas. I selected this valve to ON, gas flowed perfectly. 

Diagnosed problem in August 2018. Ordered part in November and fixed in December. Happy wife, happy husband, and just in time for Christmas cookies. Item 238 on my to-do list done! Merry Christmas to all and to all good-night. 

Replaced the oven ignitor. As was said online, 99% of the time that's the issue and it was in my case. One thing to note. Apparently the gas will not start to flow until the ignitor gets hot enough. I thought at first the repair failed but after a few seconds, the gas came on and the oven lit. 

Determined that the Ignitor for the bake was an Open circuit so that the gas solenoid would not open, nor would the ignitor heat. Replace the ignitor and bake mode was working fine. Replaced both bulbs with new one and still no light. Checked the sockets and found each to be corroded on the Neutral side. Replace both and now everything works fine. 

Sunday morning went to turn on oven and it did not come on. Can hear relay click for the call from keypad. Obtain wiring diagram from back of stove and found that oven gas valve in series with igniter. Check resistance of igniter and found it to be open. Went online and found this website, ordered part and it was on my doorstep Tuesday afternoon when I returned from work. Installed igniter and made dinner. I will mention that I do HVAC for a living so this repair was as routine as fixing a furnace. Only question I had was if the igniter was the same replacement because the igniter element itself was a different shape. Housing and mounting was identical. I will definitely use this website in the future. 

I replaced the oven igniter. Or I had someone replace it that knew what they were doing. 

I checked for resistance on ignitor, found it open 

Just replaced the oven igniter two screws and a plug 15 minutes. Fix up and running again all good. 

Replaced igniter. Hardest part was getting the connector plugged back in. Hard to reach.
