How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023438 / WPW10619844 Lid Lock Assembly

Found the part on this site, ordered and then watched the video. The video was excellent, except for the part about opening the lid. The model I have does not have the clips that are mentioned in this video (and several others online). Finally found a video that explained about removing two bolts on the back that allowed the lid to slide forward and open All the rest of the video was very accurate and it went very smoothly. Would have saved 15 minutes with the proper direction about the lid. Oh, the lock looked different but installed find and works. 

Ordered the door latch switch and followed the video. The repair took about 30 minutes and was pretty easy. 

Our Whirlpool washer was throwing error codes that related to the door latch. I initially tried to repair the existing latch but after a few loads, it started throwing codes again. Ordered a replacement latch and watched the installation video from this site and the repair went flawlessly. 

Ordered next latch which quickly arrived, great service. Viewed the online video which stated their are 2 latches that hold the washer top down, not so. On a Maytag MVWB725BW0 washer, you have remove two hinge screws on the back of the washer and then slide the top forward, very easy. 

Not sure why the washer wouldn't start, we reviewed stories online until we were satisfied that the problem was the door latch. We watched videos, looked for parts, and found the best deal (and best video) on AppliancePartsPros. I had my daughter help me fix because I needed someone to hold the lid open. The hardest part was locating the tools we needed because our garage and tool box are a mess. This was an empowering mother-daughter moment. We fixed it in less than 30 minutes, then spent a couple of hours organizing the garage! 1) unplug washer and tape down lid (we didn't disconnect hoses) 2) disengage screws from control panel cover 3) unplug from control panel and set aside 4) unplug door latch (DL) assembly and run plug through opening leading in lid 5) pop open top 6) remove screws holding DL assembly and disengage the assembly from lid 7) run new DL assembly plug through lid opening A note about the part and the videos. We had one moment of doubt. When we pulled off the old door latch assembly and held it up to the new one, the latch housing looked different. We thought we would have to return it. We decided to try it anyway since the screws lined up. It worked! Don't let the difference in the shape throw you off. 8) attach DL assembly to lid and close top of washer 9) plug in DL assembly 10) mount and screw down control panel cover 11) plug in washer 

My Maytag Bravo XL washer gave a DL error about a month ago but I was able to clean the contacts on the lid lock and it worked for another month. No such luck this week, it would turn on and immediately click off with the DL error code. Reading the past customer comments helped me diagnose the problem and watching the video convinced me that I could attempt to replace the mechanism myself. I am a 57 year old grandma who loves to attempt new things, so this repair was right up my alley. My Bravo had two additional screws in the back that needed removed so the lid could be shifted forward to release, a bit different from the video, but everything else was exactly the same. My parts arrived so quickly (within a day and a half) that my laundry routine didn't miss a beat. Thank you for such great customer service and the detailed videos. I have much more confidence now that I can attempt most repairs on this washer. 

REPLACED THE LATCH 

With the assistance of the video. I had the lock replaced in no time at all. It was a breeze thank you. 

Simple part replacement 

Thinking that the lid switch was just stuck I took a screwdriver and pulled out the switch. Wrong move. Now I had a dl error code. Not wanting to waste any more time messing with it I went to u-tube to see how to replace that part. Once I realized it was an easy fix, it was just a matter of finding the part at a reasonable price and getting it shipped to me ASAP. After calling 2 major retail repair shops and getting outrageous prices on the part I tripped over this website. There were posts for my exact problem. And a link directly to purchase the part. I was able to order the part and have it overnighted for far less that the retailers offered me. I unpacked the part and with tools in hand proceeded to remove the old lock switch and install the new one. I plugged in the unit and hit the start button. The cycle started, the lid locked and problem was fixed. With no service call fee. AWSOME!
