How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010250 / WP661600 Direct Drive Washer Motor

REPLACED MOTOR AND COPACITOR 

After removing old motor I found the smell and it was coming from the motor itself. So ordered motor your company, replaced it and not washing machine is working like brand new. 

Ordered a new motor and installed it myself. 

A former repair man deleted the grommets from the motor mount plate, the spring fastening the motor to the bracket broke the screw inside the motor and once the motor fell out of place the drive to the the transmission was broken. 

Watched the video on their site. Remove and replace motor and now basket spins. Cycle tested unit. Did a batch of laundry. 

Read all the stories after machine sometimes not draining or spinning. It might get through the wash cycle then not drain or spin on rinse. If we stood there watching it and changing cycles sometimes we’d smell a burning or hot motor smell. I’d also noticed in the last few months that the clothes seemed to be a little wetter than normal when removing them from the washer, but let it slide since everything was still working. After reading some stories on here , it sounded like our problem might be the motor so ordered a new motor. My son put it in, I’m glad he did, the motor was a bit heavy for me. My washer works now ! I’d rather replace all the parts before buying a new machine. I like my machine even if it is at least 20 years old. 

Ordered a new motor, pump and coupling. Changed the parts out. Then put the washer back together and its running like new. 

Clutch went out 2 weeks prior so I thought it was the gearbox. Changed the gearbox and it didn't fix it. Figured it wasn't the solenoid because it would start fine. Changed the motor and that fixed it. 

The technician did not come, so my husband did the work. We watched the video, and he did the work. It was a little difficult because he is a beginner, but the video made it very easy, and we did not need the technician. 

Replaced the motor and motor couplings and now my 35 y.o. machine works like new. So worth the effort!! Thank y'all for being my go to place for repair parts. Love the instructional videos!! The challenge level is dependent on how well you are familiar with disassembly. We had already disassembled trying to figure out the problem. We also had replaced the agitator cogs so knowing how to take things apart already makes it seem easier.
