How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010250 / WP661600 Direct Drive Washer Motor

Seemed to be a stuck motor, unit was very old so I replaced the coupling, motor, and pump. Once I got into it realized something was stuck in the pump and motor still worked. Could have just replaced the pump but replaced all 3 just because. Repair worked fine, had I troubleshoot the issue first could have saved some good money. 

Replaced motor and water pump. 

Watched a few videos to rule out other possibilities and then disassembled it to get to the motor and remove it for testing. The part was found online at AppliancePartsPros.com at a very fair price and it arrived within two days. Very happy with the experience dealing with this repair effort. 

Replaced motor with a new one from AppliancePartsPros.com. The exact replacement motor is the old one. The old motor's front bearing was shot, and motor would only buzz from the armature locking up against the winding housing. Make sure and inspect and clean the pump while you have that off. Mine was still in good shape. Whirlpool builds great machines, to repair. Everything is easy to get to. 

Replaced the motor. Very easy to replace. Hardest part is taking the washer apart and putting it back together. 

Replaced motor. 

Put in a new motor and new inlet valve. Thankfully, I have a friend that is in the business of washing machine repair and he was able to replace the existing motor as well as the inlet valve (which was 25 years old by the way) in about an hour. Seemed like an easy fix to me! But it would have taken me all day!! The machine runs again, like a champ (as well as being much quieter!) and I did about 6 loads of overdue laundry with no problems! 

Ordered new motor. Took awhile to get here due to it being out of stock, but it finally arrived. It was missing a cardboard piece that goes on the bottom, but we were able to use the old one. My son and I worked at it for two hours. The disassembly was quite challenging because of the age, rusted screws and pieces tightly stuck together. It was a chore and both of us were skeptical it would actually work when we finally got it back together but lo and behold, it did! It was a challenging yet satisfying endeavor. The video made it look easier than real life. 

Replaced the motor with a new motor from AppliancePartsPros.com. The washing machine works great now. Hope to get another 26yrs...
