How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5620185 / W10439651 Drive Motor

Researched the problem and found that the motor needed to be replaced. Went to ApplianceParts Pros.com and found my replacement parts. There was also a video on how to do the replacement. Included with the motor were replacement clips to wire the new motor correctly as well as complete written instructions. It took me about 2 hours start to finish. I think this is the fourth or fifth time I ordered from AppliancePartsPros. Each time the service, parts and clarity of removal and replace has been spot on. 

Watched the video on you tube. Husband took out trash compactor and found that we also needed the drive gear - we thought it was just the motor that had gone bad. Ordered the parts by the Model Number of the Kitchenaid Trash Compactor. Appliance PartsPros.com shipped the order out immediately and we received items the next day. Both parts fit perfectly and the repair was done in 2-3 hours. This saved us $700+ over buying a new KitchenaAid Trash Compactor. We're very happy! 

Ordered replacement motor. Installed same. 

New motor had 3 wire connections more then my old motor and instructions didn’t cover it but I made it work. New motor looked good quality and sounds strong. 

Disassembled and installed a new motor. 

Disassembled the bottom of the compactor and observed darkened coils and smell on motor windings. I ordered a new motor from appliance parts pros and had it on my porch the next day, unbelievable service. The repair video on the appliance parts pros web site showed how to change over the wire ends which looked simple enough but I was lucky enough that my harness pugged right in.. I also ordered the gear set and replaced them just as a maintenance precaution which went just as easy.

My friend repaired the compactor and its running fine. 

Because the switch is not repairable or available I bought the motor assembly...the new and improved version. The part came the next day that was amazing! But when I opened the box I was a bit startled - all the pics I took of the old wiring were no good, the motor wiring was totally different and all the old wires had to be cut and new connectors added. But the directions were very good along with provided pictures. One thing could be corrected - the new pin connectors are too big on the crimped end. The pin locations on the centrifugal switch are tight and it gets real crowded using the supplied connectors. The job went smoothly, I had it all back together - motor, wires, chain and pulley, and tested in an hour. Doing the repair myself I saved our budget over $550...that's what Sears repair service wanted to charge me!
