How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985197 / W10811150 Control Panel (Console Assembly)

Remove six screws, control box, latch, from old panel, install on new panel and re-attach. 

I took it apart and determined that electricity was getting to everyplace that needed it. I then decided to replace the control panel with the micro-switches in it. Went online and found the local supplier as well as Appliance Parts Pro. I couldn't find what I needed on the website so I utilized the chat. The lady that responded was quite helpful giving me the part numbers I needed. I was able to purchase the part at about 70% the cost of obtaining it locally but it did take one more day to get it. Switching the control panel out was a breeze as I had already had it apart to some degree when testing it. Five screws (Torx 15m) (plus two hex head where the handle guard attaches inside the control panel) and unclipped a module or two and reversed the process on the new control panel. 

We , a church, hired a technician who claimed it was the computer board. A new board was purchased , installed and it didn't work. A quick internet search stated that the next possible reason for not working would be the control panel. We bought this, placed it into the dishwasher and it worked! Thank you for the EXCELLENT service , help, and understand with our problems. 

I posted a question and gave the details of what was and was not working, and APP.com replied that the control panel needed to be replaced. So I ordered one, which was exactly what I needed, and the right color and everything. Replacing it was a snap - even for the handyman challenged like me! Watched a video on how to remove the old one, and install the new one - mine was a tad different, but even I could figure out what was different and it was no problem. Unscrewed the screws holding the old one on, unplugged the door lock and the panel control, took the old panel off, put the new one in place, plugged in the door lock and new panel, put the screws back in, and viola! Worked like a charm! 

I had an appliance service man come and diagnose the problem since there were a few things it may have been. I was told it was the control panel and was given the cost of repair. since they did not have the part in stock I asked what the part number was because otherwise I would have to pay for another service call as well as the part. ordering the part myself saved me $104.94 between the difference in the cost of parts and an additional service call to install it.
