How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023357 / WPW10605427 Drain Pump

Too easy— Maytag Front load washer- Popsicle stick piece and a quarter somehow made their way into the pump— I believe the motor overheated..but likely would have worked after fod removal. However, I opted to have the new part on hand and replacement went really easy. All done and back in business- likely saved several dollars “doing it myself “ Using model number part search made this easy— and a photo of part insured correct part ordered. 

Initially checked pump screen. It was clear. Then ordered a replacement pump from AppliancePartsPros.com. The pump arrived in 2 business days. Very simple part to replace. Just need to take your time and drain out all of the water from the filter holder before dropping the pump. The pump is held in by 4 screws. Disconnect the drain line from the old pump, unplug the electrical, and reverse. Anyone with basic skills can easily complete this and save a bunch of money. The hardest part of the job was moving the washer away from and then back to wall. 

Could not reproduce the problem, but did not like the sound the drain pump made when it was running dry. Replaced as a precaution. 

Replaced the water pump. 

Changed the water pump. It worked very well. 

After several weeks of getting the slow drain or clogged line diagnostic code and having to reset the washer by unplugging it for several minutes and plugging it back in to resume. It failed altogether and left the door locked mid-cycle (had to pull the top cover off to manually unlock the latch). Ordered the pump on Wednesday and received it on Friday of the same week. Took about 20 to 25 minutes to do the swap and put it back together. No more codes or problems. My wife was ready to drop a lot on a service call and high-marked-up part that DIYer could do. Thanks APP's for fast shipping and reasonable prices. 

Manually released water from removeable basket under drum. Ended up pulling hose off at pump to see if something was preventing pump wheel to spin. Was able to feel something loose with my finger. Took apart pump assembly and found shaft motor rusted and pump wheel sheared off. Ordered part with expedited shipping. Exact replacement part arrived a day later and installed. Back in business, happy wife, happy life, plus I saved myself a few hundred dollars by doing it myself ASAP. 

I replaced the water level sensor, checked the J17 relay, checked the lower wiring harness for continuity and there was none. I did an ohms check on the drain pump and it tested within limits 15 ohms. So I tried again to wash another load. Did not work. So I pulled the drain pump and it was really hot. So I replaced it and that was the problem. It works great now. 

I ordered a new Water Pump and it fits perfectly.
