How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023357 / WPW10605427 Drain Pump

Water pump worked intermittently and when it didn't the machine would not drain, giving the error code. A new water pump fixed the problem. The way I chose to remove and replace the pumps was to tip the washer up on its front face. Then the bottom of the machine can be easily accessed. Just be careful to protect the door by placing wood blocks in such a way that the machine does not rest on the door itself. 

Ordered the part with one day delivery, replaced the pump, machine is running great again. 

Replaced the part. 

Replaced water pump. Was the exact part I needed. Prompt delivery and cost $40 compared to a competitor's price of #200. 

Ordered a new pump. 

First checked to see if water pump was plugged - it was not. Ordered a new pump and installed it. Took more time to take back off the washer and disconnect hoses than to replace the pump. 

Replaced the drain pump. 

The part was the right one & everything is working ok. 

Dewatered with shop vac, broke down water connections and removed back panel. Bit of a tight squeeze to access pump and mounting screws as it was located in the middle of washer housing vice fore or aft. Also found drain hose clamp style to be yet another engineering marvel; replaced with old fashion adjustable hose clamp. Overall a rather easy r and r of the pump. Actually took almost as long to deal with connections and back panel as the repair. 

Ordered a new water pump, replaced a bad pump. less than an hour later, washer working like a new one.
