How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3093452 / 239087 Rear Drum Felt Seal With Adhesive

I replaced the rear drum seal. Took off the old one as instructed by the video, sanded the rest of it off, and glued on the new one. I had to wait 24 hrs. to let it dry completely before using the dryer. However I had to take the entire dryer apart in order to get to it, so that took some time as well.

This dryer came with my house, so it's at least 16 years old and probably more like 25! At first I thought I'd replace it, but I couldn't find a dryer that would fit in the spot this one does. They're all too deep. So I decided to fix it. First I followed the video to replace the rollers. One of the rollers basically had a flat side. That's why it was so loud. It's kind of amazing that it worked as long as it did. I replaced the belt too while I was at it. The hardest part was threading the belt back onto to the pulley, but I practiced a couple times without the drum in place, that was a good idea. Getting the belt back on requires a little bit of arm gymnastics. I also replaced the felt seal by following the felt-seal video. When I tried to replace the door cables I realized that both my door springs were gone, too, so I ordered those. It was pretty easy since I had the front off the dryer already. My dryer is SOO much quieter. Amazing. And it dries better too, because it's actually making a seal with the drum. $135 for something I was about to replace for $1000. I love it. Plus my teenage daughters are impressed with me. 

We replaced the timer. Finding our item on the website was easy and I loved the service drawings with the callout numbers that took me directly to the part I needed to order. Thanks to appliance parts pros and their very helpful repair video, the repair was very easy to complete! While we had the dryer apart, we changed the back drum felt, the pulley, both wheels, and the on/off switch. All bought at Appliance Parts Pros, great videos to help us repair each item. Had no problem with repair of. 37 yr old Kenmore dryer, now runs as new, less drying time. Also as everything was quite clogged with lint. Did have considerable time involved in locating spade electric connectors for new element, as old element used round connectors, paid $1:15 for new connectors at electric supply outlet. Bought belt n 2 tube rollers, tension idler from u back in February, Didn’t use any of the idlers,as the idlers in dryer are much more heavy duty and in excellent condition.wish to return these parts to you,please advise. Didn’t have any undo troubles with repair, other than vacuuming 37 yrs of lint from dryer cabinet,n searching for proper electric connectors. Did find bout $ 3.00 in change in dryer cabinet All in all very satisfied with your service,thank you. 

Through the APP website, I was pretty darn sure this was the correct part. I watched the installation video a couple times, and felt pretty sure I could handle it. The only issue I had was cleaning the old adhesive off the drum. The video made it look a lot easier, but probably 90% of my repair time was sanding that off. (I wish I could have found a chemical solution. I didn't have any luck with solvents I had on hand.) Otherwise, it was straightforward, just like the video. The adhesive tube was pretty messy to work with. There's PLENTY of adhesive in the tube, so if I did it again, I might squeeze a big glob into the garbage can to start, so that it wasn't coming out of the tube on its own accord. THe "other" tools below were sandpaper and clothespins, both of which are shown in the video. 

I didn't know where to start or what to do? Would I need a new dryer? I'm not very handy, but I decided to pull it apart and take a look. I've never done any dryer repair before. But some handy how-to videos on AppliancePartsPros.com helped, so I ordered my rear drum felt seal from them rather than another website that was just a couple cents cheaper. The tips from the how-to video really helped. It ended up being a fairly easy repair and I'm glad I took the time to do it myself.

Replaced motor and gaskets. 

Replaced motor, since I had the dryer apart I also replaced the rollers, belt tensioner, belt and rear drum seal. It was easy finding the parts on your site, and they all fit just as they should have. Very pleased!
