How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009858 / WP6-3129480 Dryer Drum Roller Axle

Replaced the drum support rollers and roller axles; Also replaced the blower wheel assembly. 

Installed pair of new drum roller axles, drum support rollers, and tumbler bearing kits. WD40 to tensioner pulley axle and we are back in operation, smooth, quiet drying. The associated videos made it doable 

My 20-year-old Maytag dryer was making a very loud screeching noise that sounded like metal on metal. After review of the Appliance parts.com website, I identified the potential need to not only change the dryer belt (which is what my husband suspected as the issue) but also to swap out the drum support rollers. I ordered the following: 2 drum support rollers, belt, belt tension pulley, 2 dryer roller axles and 2 tumbler bearing kits. After a couple of hours, my husband replaced the 2 drum support rollers, belt and belt tension pulley using the support videos on the website. We didn't find a need to change the roller axles nor the tumbler bearings. My dryer now sounds like a new dryer! Happy wife! 

I did a search online and watched a DIY video on Appliance Parts Pro. I called the company and was referred to the tech dept. I knew that we’d need parts even if we had to hire someone to install them. I learned that we’d have to open the machine in order to assess the problem and know what to order. It took us several hours, but with ‘Matt’s DIY’ videos on this site and on our tablet, my husband and I viewed and reviewed as much as we needed. We ordered the part and installed it when it arrived the next day. We are very satisfied and more confident with a quiet dryer for the first time in a long time. 

Following the video from Appliance Parts Pros made repairing my clothes dryer easy. Step by step video instructions walked me through the repair and I was done before the estimated time. Thank you APP for the video and the quick shipment of the parts. My dryer is quiet again. 

After watching the MOST HELPFUL videos online here, it was an obvious problem with the dryer support roller/bearing assembly. I ordered the drum support roller parts X2, new roller axles X2, and figured why not, since I was tearing the dryer apart, I also ordered a replacement drum belt. (GOOD decision! While not broken, the belt showed signs of a shortened life ahead.) All parts arrived within 2 business days. Once I made space for parts as I removed them, total actual repair time was about 90 minutes. (I also vacuumed the entire inside of the dryer AND cleared out many years of lint that was blocking the outflow path.) I had all the tools required for the repair, and finally got to use my split ring pliers for the first time in 20 years. After completing the parts swaps and reassembling the dryer, the test run was perfect. Almost all noise was eliminated, aside from the motor. 

Installed (2) Drum Support Rollers, new Belt, and Belt Tension Pulley. 

Replaced the drum rollers, roller shafts and belt. 

Replaced drum support rollers. 

I applied heat proof grease to the drum roller shafts which fixed the problem for awhile. Started making the noise again so I ordered new shafts and drum rollers, idler pulley and new drum drive belt. I installed everything and the dryer now runs like new and quiet.
