How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009858 / WP6-3129480 Dryer Drum Roller Axle

Replaced both drum support rollers, both tumbler bearings. ordered a dryer drum belt since I would have the dryer apart, might as well replace the 25 year old belt. Videos helped make it an easy repair. My dryer did have an access panel on the rear that made belt alignment very easy. 

I disassembled the dryer to see what was causing the noise, I noticed that the tumbler bearings had failed, Also thought I would look further to see if there were other parts that looked worn. I purchased new drum rollers,Roller axles ,Drum Belt , tumbler bearings and retaining clips. It was an easy repair and only took about an hour due to cleaning the entire inside of the dryer. Now it runs like a new dryer . They even have videos to show how to do it if your not sure how to do it . I always work on my appliances and save a fortune on service or buying a replacement. 

We researched the problem on Appliance Parts Pros and found that it could be the drum bearings. We found that one of them wasn't spinning properly, resulting in the noise against the drum. We replaced both of them and the axles, and now the dryer works beautifully! 

Replaced all the moving parts associated with drum rotation. Vacuumed the lint and cleaned the inside of the cabinet thoroughly before beginning repairs. Videos on the Appliance Parts Pros website were extremely helpful in making the repairs efficiently. With these repairs the old Maytag is running like new after all these years. 

For $50 in parts....saved new purchase....AND the landfill...Watched video, ordered parts, quick delivery ....Husband with a bit of common sense repaired. Easy peezy. 

I replaced both drum support rollers. The roller on the right side was completely seized up. While doing the repair, I also replaced the belt, pulley roller and the drum roller axles. 

Wasn't sure it would be as easy as they showed in the video, but sure enough, it was. I think I spent as much time getting my tools together, cleaning the inside of the dryer and putting my tools away as I did doing the entire repair! After watching the video, I figured I should replace multiple parts while I have the dryer torn down, so I did the pullies, axles, front drum bearing, and drum belt. The hardest part to complete was getting the drum back into the dryer after all the repairs were made. Not sure why, but I kept getting the belt snagged on something. The video on this site is why I decided to order the parts and attempt the repair myself. Appliance Parts Pros has earned a customer for life! 

I diagnosed the squeaking problem years ago,and sort of forgot about it. I had sprayed some form of lubricant on the roller bearings. When I was repairing my mothers furnace, I heard the dryer again. It had gotten much worse. I looked at A PROS website again. I love the schematics, they are very helpful I ordered the parts and fixed the dryer. She said it is like having a new machine in her laundry room. 

After reviewing the EXCELLANT Repair Videos ( Performed by MATT ), I took the dryer apart and found that the Right side ROLLER had worn and broken apart. I also found the Shaft ( Drum Roller Axle ) Also had worn badly and had to be replaced. (The LEFT side was OK, But I replaced that ROLLER only as well, the shaft was good) I also replaced the DRUM BELT which showed signs of cracking AND it;s BELT TENSION PULLEY. The most difficult issues were: 1). Replacing the Roller Axle shaft. VERY LITTLE ROOM to tighten nut with a wrench! ( I had to use a short length wrench ), difficult to make tight ). 2). Re-threading the BELT around the Belt Tension Pulley and Motor shaft! You must do it by FEEL because you are REACHING IN to do it with NO VISUAL VIEW. ( The DRUM is blocking your view ). 3). Good IDEA to color mark ( with felt pen ) which HOLES to LINE UP when RE-ASSEMBLING with screws. Will save you a little time! VERY IMPORTANT to take the TIME to WATCH the REPAIR VIDEO!! I watched it at least 6 times (for details) AND had my Laptop next to me as I went step by step during the repair! VERY HELPFUL! It DID take EXTRA time to VACUUM & CLEAN the LINT that was EVERYWHERE INSIDE! Be prepared to spend TIME CLEANING as well! TOTAL job took me about 2 1/2 HOURS!
