How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009858 / WP6-3129480 Dryer Drum Roller Axle

With the help of Appliancepartspros.com videos I was able to diagnose the problem—worn out drum rollers. I ordered the parts and watched the repair videos which showed me exactly how to install the new parts, which I did with complete success. My old dryer now works like it is brand new! Instead of having to buy a new dryer, I fixed it and only spent $68 on parts. I’ve never worked on a dryer before, but with help from appliance parts pros.com I am confident in my ability to take on just about any appliance repair! 

Watched the video for the parts ordered from Appliance Parts. Thank goodness for the video's! It took a little while but was successful. I know I saved $250.00 plus in Labor. 

Replaced both drum rollers and axles to eliminate the noise. I was able to rotate the left drum roller by hand and it was difficult to move, making the same noise that I heard when the dryer was running. The roller shaft was scored. The nuts removing the axles were very tight and required a good box wrench to apply leverage. Make sure you wear gloves to protect your hands. I also replaced the belt, which was not in bad shape. The videos and information provided online made it easy to get the job done.They also helped me to diagnose the problem without taking the machine apart. The only tricky part was making sure that I put the belt back on correctly and I had to watch the video a couple of times to ensure that I had done this right. Spent lots of time cleaning out the lint around the motor housing and base pan; 

I replaced the drum support rollers, roller axle, drum belt and tension pulley. The noise is gone and dryer runs like new. I am happy appliancepartspro have all the parts I needed to fix my dryer. 

Replace drum wheels, axles, and belt. 

I watched the AppliancePartsPros youtube video on how to replace the drum rollers and decided to buy the parts from AppliancePartsPros.com. I decided that as long as I had the dryer apart, it would be a good idea to replace not only the rollers, but the drum roller axles, front bearings, the drum belt and the hi-limit thermostat so I wouldn't have to go back into the dryer for a long time. The disassembly was very straightforward and was almost identical to the video. Our dryer had two more screws than the video showed, but it was not a problem. When I finished the the disassembly, the roller on the left had rust coming out of the axle area, so I knew I had found the source of the sound - I was happy I ordered the axles to go with the rollers. I spent the bulk of my time cleaning out all of the lint and dust on the inside of the cabinet and there was a lot of lint build up below the lint trap. I did call the AppliancePartsPros hotline because there were no instructions on what lubricant to use for the rollers. I was advised to use a graphite lubricant. Installation of all of the new parts was just the reverse of disassembly. We've now run a load through it and it is as quiet as new! I ended up using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, 5/16" and 1/4" nut drivers, an 1/8" drill bit and a pop rivet tool to complete this project. 

I replaced two drum support rollers, one drum roller axle, the belt tension pulley and the belt. I thought it was best to replace all these parts to keep it working, hopefully for a long time. 

I followed what others wrote. It turned out one of the rollers had frozen: the dryer is 13 years old. I couldn't believe Maytag designs the rollers with no lubricant - asking for trouble. I replaced both rollers and the one burned-up shaft. While I was at it, replaced the front drum bearings and the belt-tensioner pulley (also called a bearing, which showed signs of overheating.) The repair was SUCCESSFUL - PROBABLY COULD NOT HAVE DONE WITHOUT EXCELLENT VIDEOS. 

Replaced the 2 drum support rollers, and 2 drum roller axles, along with the drum belt. While the machine was torn apart I vacuumed out any and all visible lent from inside the machine. 

I didn't think it needed all the parts I ordered. Since I had the parts went ahead and replaced the shaft for rollers, belt, pulley roller. The job went very well, it took about 2 hours, thanks to the videos. Now its running like a new dryer.
