Replaced gas valve coil kit,..high limit thermostat,..cycling thermostat,..to get it functioning again...I also replaced the drum support rollers,drum roller axles,tumbler bearings & drum felt seals, while I had it apart.I've owned the dryer for 18yrs. This is the third time I have had to service the dryer, but it has done a lot of clothes in its life!......My next washer will be a Speed Queen, pricey......but worth the coin! Read More... James P El Cajon , CA December 02, 2016 20 year old maytag neptune dryer loud screeching Determined most likely cause (from Google search) worn tension arm pulley, drum support rollers or both. Ordered the parts from ApplianceParts Pros and they arrived in 2 days. Watched the video on the ApplianceParts Pros website. Disassembled the dryer and found the tension pulley worn, replaced it as well as the drum support rollers (since the unit was apart). I have retaining ring pliers, otherwise this would have been a bit harder. I also found it easier to replace the tension pulley by removing the whole arm assembly from the motor housing to remove the retaining clip. Read More... However I replaced both rollers both shafts and idler sheave for one reason; once in do it all. No second tear down. Wateched a video and was ready. Got parts on two days. If I was going to tear the dryer that far apart to diagnose, might as well replace a few extras. Ended up the tension pulley was way to tight on its axle.
