How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4023880 / 206638 Siphon Break

After watching a video took off the front of our Maytag dryer. I assumed it was the rollers but it was the plastic blower fan. The D shaped shaft hole cracked and became circular and off center. Replaced cracked belt and blower fan and vacuumed entire inside. Belt was helpful to have another person to put in correct spot while holding drum in. The commercials were correct this matching washer and dryer lasted 20+ years with zero maintenance. I'm so happy we fixed it for less than $40! 

Followed the video which was very helpful! Parts arrived in a few days and my husband and I repaired my old Maytag, In this pandemic, there are no repairmen. We are very grateful for your company service and reasonable parts cost. I’m back in business keeping our clothes clean and this virus away.. 

In conjunction with the video provided by appliancepartspros, I took the washer apart and replaced the part. No more leak. 

Well, I got my son in law to take a look. It's an ancient Maytag that needed an internal hose. He ordered online, we got the parts, and he fixed it easily (he isn' trained, but figured it out). Sorry, this isn't the technical story, but rather a thankfulness for him and your services. 

First I replaced the discharge pump and both hoses, it still leaked and the belts were real bad. I watched a you tube video you sponsered and went to your link. when I saw your prices I was not happy, much cheaper and genuine parts! So I called got two belts a siphon break and elbow.It took me longer to pull the dryer and washer out than to in stall the parts. You guys are great!

The siphon bread I received from AppliancePartsPros was exactly like the old one I was replacing. The online video was very helpful. The job would have only taken 30 minutes, but the hose clamp included was too short by only 1/8" (just like another reviewer had reported). Luckily, I had some hose clomps onhand and found one large enough to do the job, but this extra search added another 30 minutes to the job; just glad I didn't have to go to the hardware store for it. 

I pulled off the front of the washing machine and peered into the belly of the beast, hoping to observe some area where the problem was occurring. Without an obvious problem indication I was left to filling the machine and running a cycle. Thankfully the seal at the bottom of the drum was OK and there was no indication of a leak until the water was pumped out, when a small trickle ran down the output hose creating the small puddle we had observed previously. I proceeded to check the siphon break and found that to be the culprit and I had just watched the repair video the previous evening. Obviously that was not a repairable item so I had to resort to ordering a new one. But since this Maytag is 34 years old and this problem was the first problem we have had, I decided to order both hoses to the water pump, since they had worked well and it would be difficult to put the new siphon break on the old hose. Made the repair much easier. The only problem was the hose clamp included for the new siphon break was too small and would not go around the hose once I installed the break in the hose. 

Diagnosis was fairly easy (siphon valve failure) . Had to tilt the top up to see the leak. Ordered part which arrived in a few days. Repair was mostly simple although there was a metal crimp ring that had to be removed. 

About 1/2 hour - remove the front panel, then the top, then the hose from the pump, then unscrew the broken vacuum breaker - install the new one.
