How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012240 / WP8268540 Door Handle Spring

Remove 6 torn head screws top/inside door; release/remove inoperable handle/latch and discard; insert new handle with slider; re-attach one spring plus, attach additional spring on arms of new handle. Re install in door and button up. 

Replaced handle. 

Replaced the handle and spring. It took awhile to figure out what was wrong after I got the handle out. I could not tell it was broken and I did not know the spring was missing. After I watched the repair video I relalized what was wrong. Called your talk to a pro line, she helped me order the correct parts and sent it to me in 2 days. Got the part and had the dishwasher up and running in 20 minutes. Thanks for your help and knowledge. I am sure I saved many $$$$$ by not having to call in a repair man. You guys & gals are the best. Inside the door of my Kitchenaid dishwasher is a plastic handle. One side had broken off and one of the two springs had fallen off into the door. The handle spring loads the plunger in the door that keeps it closed. The plunger also pushes down an internal switch that tells the controls the door is sealed shut and it's OK to wash. I opened it all up on a Saturday night, so I couldn't get parts from my local appliance part dealer so I just looked up the handle on the appliance parts pro Web site and ordered them. They were waiting for me when I got back the following weekend. It just took a few minutes to put it all back together. Saved myself a few dollars over a service call. I am also fortunate enough to have a wife that can tolerate a week without the dishwasher or me!!!! 

Ordered a replacement latch and springs, viewed the video on how to install the latch and springs, and was done in less than 10 minutes. The parts were great, but the video was exceptionally well-done and important to the success of the repair. 

I fixed it exactly the way the Appliance Parts Pro video showed me. I went to their site because the site I had used in the past did not have a parts diagram for my dishwasher. Not only did their site have the parts diagram that I needed, it also had a video to replace the part that I needed. The repair took less than 5 minutes start to finish. And the part came very fast with standard shipping! Thank you!

I suspected a loose wire connection inside the door. Upon further inspection after removing the front control panel, I determined that the latch handle was broken which prevented the "door closed" switch to be activated. 

The quick fix video shown on AppliancePartsPros.com website made it easy! I ordered the part and replaced it quickly and easily! :) Didn't need the xtra spring but ordered it just incase.
