How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005764 / WP21001598 Suspension Spring

Purchased recommended spare parts from Appliance Parts Pros and viewed video to gauge how difficult the repair would be. The video gave me valuable insight into the repair and enough confidence to attempt the job myself. Unfortunately, the job took a lot longer than expected due to cramped working conditions in my laundry room, rusted out bolts and (unlike the video) no access panel on the rear of the washer. As a result, the springs were much more difficult to reach and remove using just the vice grips. I improvised their removal by using an improvises tool- string tied to the top of the spring's hooked end, and a wooden dowel placed across the washer opening used to wind up the string to stretch the springs to release the old ones and to reinstall the new ones. (Ok full disclosure, my wife wound up the string while I went under the tub to attack the springs). The snubber ring was easy to replace and I much appreciated the video tip about it.

Using this site worked very well especially the video of the repair. The model was the same but the unit was a little different. It did not have an access panel in the back to remove the springs the easy solution was to remove the screws on the left side of the washer bottom and to move the side away good thing was I did not have to remove the motor in doing this. The machine is being tested now but it looks and sounds good at this point. 

Replaced the snubbed ring and all six springs. 

Installed snubber ring and 6 new springs, so far problem is cured. The parts arrived in 2 days and using the instruction video on the website the install was a breeze! I am mechanically inclined, but have not done that much with appliances. The video is spot on and if you follow it you can't go wrong. Good job guys! Per the video, ordered the new snubber ring, but also decided to replace the springs since I would have them removed anyway. Easy fix, but as another poster said, in order to reinstall the springs in the back, you have to remove the cabinet from the base. The video showed an access panel in the back which maybe allowed access to the rear springs, but mine did not have the access panel. Works great now. 

Followed suggestions for replacing snubber ring and suspension springs. Video provided exact steps required and was easy to follow. Washer wasn't identical, but it was still close enough to follow. Recommend watching full video before you start and then following again while you complete repair. Remember to buy longer (1 inch worked) 10-24 screws in advance. 

Replaced the snubber ring and the suspension springs, also replaced the drive belt while I had the unit apart. I watched the repair video prior to disassemble and again during assembly. The video covered all aspects of the repair very well.
