How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010168 / WP63907 Suspension Spring

Ordered all new springs and followed the video to replace them. It went like charm. 

By watching a video on the internet, parts got to me on time. 

Ordered new springs. Had to ask my brother to install as I have trouble getting up from the floor. He resisted, claiming that the originals were fine. After putting them in, he showed me the old ones to prove that there was nothing wrong with them. However, the machine no longer shakes and the basket is tight and can't be moved. You cannot tell whether springs are good or bad just by looking at them. This machine is over 20 years old but thanks to your website, still has life left in it! 

I fixed it by watching the video that was on your sight. I went step by step according to the video and was able to make it run quieter like it did when it was new. I replaced the pump and the three springs around the tank. I’m not very mechanically inclined but thanks to your video, I was able to get it done. 

Replaced the three balance springs, the spring mounting clips, and the vertical centering spring. Easy to do; only a Philips screwdriver to flip up the console so as to be able to rock the outer body forward and remove. The hardened springs vibrating in the hardened clips had worn grooves; one finally snapped and the spin wouldn't center. This single wonderful Kenmore washer, bought new in 1991, has gotten us through three kids and three dogs, thanks to robust design and great aftermarket part support. Talking with friends and family, this one is far better in actually cleaning clothes than any other of the high-zoot Johnny-come-lately appliances. Our matching Kenmore dryer and Kenmore dishwasher have fared equally well for twenty-nine years. 

Son reported washer would stop between cycles, would not spin dry all the water out and was shaking like it was off balance. Washer is 23 years and 400 miles away. R&R a timer and four suspension springs. Problem went away for short time. Then stopped between cycles again. Bumped the lid and the machine started up so tried to hear a click when opening and closing lid. Nothing heard so replaced the lid switch and everything works. Kind of hard to figure out what's wrong when 400 miles away from it. 

Using Appliance Parts Pros. Videos on how to repair suspension springs on my Whirlpool Washer LSR7233DQ0, I was able to successfully repair the washer. The video's were inspiring and accurately described how to proceed with the repairs. I bought too many parts,(contingency) as I only used one of the long vertical stabilizing spring which had worn through the base frame. I drilled a new hole, as the video recommended, and installed the new vertical stabilizing spring with no effort. Gaining access to the repair and restoring the parts were just as the video described and I would encourage others to try. The whole repair took me longer than an experienced pro would have taken to do the job, but then I expected it would take me longer. 

New suspension springs. 

I replaced the suspension spring, counterbalance spring, and white nylon suspension pads 3 upper and 3 lower (they were purchased in my subsequent order). I think the main problem was due to a totally worn out lower tub suspension pad. Since I had the unit apart I wanted to be thorough and replace anything that looked worn and might cause trouble in the future. The machine is running perfectly now. 

Changed suspension springs, didn't need tub pads. Still slight bang on full load of bed clothes, but the machine doesn't appear to be self destructing on high spin with a load anymore.
