How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985146 / W10820036 Door Switch

Removed two screws from the top on the control panel, lifted it up and toward the front and placed it on top of the washer. Two 1/4 " screws were removed to lift out the switch. The wires were pushed back on (per the enclosed instructions) and the panel reattached. The most amazing thing was that the part was still available for this old machine! 

I bought the switch and changed it in less than minutes 

Easy replacement except clips a micron short but drums holds the support in anyway. Not clear whether which slots gray or white slides go into. 15+ year old dryer working fine now. 

I ended up taking it completely apart. i,m now the patron of the local laudramat. next paycheck i' get the new seals and re assemble this old dryer. The chute blower seal,rear seal,blower to motor shaft seal and drive belt were bad. This will be a much needed fix.

I watched the APP video, mostly to get the proper way to get at the switch. The repair went easily, took ca. 15 

My 25-year-old Whirlpool washer would fill with water and wash, but it would not spin. This was intermittent, so I first suspected a timer problem. I eventually noticed that the lever for the lid switch did not appear normal. I pushed it with a screwdriver, but I didn't hear the standard "click". I removed the front of the washer and tested the switch with an ohm meter, and it would not complete the circuit. It is a very simple and inexpensive repair to remove the old switch and replace with a new one. I used two screwdrivers, and that was it. Check the YouTue video for instructions on how to remove the front of the washer. 

Replace switch and metal latch, put new terminal end to fit switch terminal 

I looked to see if the door safety switch was in place and found it was broken. Ordered part from appliance parts pros. The part was here in a day and a half. Unbelievable service.
