The Washer Door Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component is crucial for ensuring the washer operates safely by detecting whether the door is open or closed. The door switch prevents the washer from starting or continuing its cycle when the door is open, and it allows the machine to function only when the door is securely closed.

Symptoms of a failing Washer Door Switch include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping unexpectedly during a cycle
  • Error codes related to door closure issues displayed on the washer's control panel
  • The washer door not locking properly or the lock mechanism not engaging
  • The washer continuing to operate with the door open

Causes of a bad door switch can include wear and tear from frequent use, damage from repeated opening and closing of the door, electrical faults such as short circuits, or physical damage from mishandling or impact.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with some models from Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore.

Jeff for Model Number 110.81950100

Door switch for Kenmore washer. Part Number W10820036. Is AP5985146 the correct part? Asking because I ordered Whirlpool 279347 Washer Door Switch Kit on Amazon and there was no part information printed on it except NC, NO, and Com. No part info on it and an Instruction sheet for 279347 Switch Kit.Does your part AP5985146 have any writing on it for identification? More than NC, NO, and Com? What does Instruction sheet say for which part? Thank You

Hello Jeff, W10820036 is the correct part number for the door switch on the model provided. The switch does not say anything other than the contact information as you stated above. The part does come with an instruction sheet as provided by the manufacturer which can send to you if requested in a new question that includes a valid e-mail address to which we can send it. This switch is used on multiple models to include washers and dryers and this instruction sheet explains how the part is installed in each.

Greg, You're pretty close to target, Check and make sure the lid and hinge balls aren't damaged or worn, etc. There should be very little to no movement in the lid when it is raised open half way or more. When you open the lid, if it is adjusted and operating properly, you should hear the switch "click" when the lid reaches 3/4 to 1 inch open, and the same "click" when the lid is lowered to the same 3/4 to 1 inch. You didn't mention any noises or delays to restart the washer, so it doesn't sound like a motor or voltage problem. Of course make sure there's nothing stuck near the top of the spin tub and tub cover, the washer is level or a "touch" higher in the front to keep from having off balanced loads.

Hello Jeaninne. The model number is not good. For model 11096586200, W10820036 is the correct switch. It installs the same way as the old switch. At this time we do not offer a video for this part number. Sorry.

Ronwm for Model Number LER7848DZ1

My Whirlpool electric dryer will only run if I'm pulling on the timer knob. While it's running the drum will spin, heat will build up and it appears to operate normally. But I have to be pulling on the timer knob for the dryer to be running. If I let go then it will just shut off. I can then press the start button again, pull on the timer knob and it starts running again. But when I let go of the timer knob it shuts right off. I've tested the fuse, but it still shuts down in the same fashion when the fuse is bypassed. I'm assuming that replacing the timber will fix the issue, but was hoping to get your input first. Thanks.
