How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6022334 / WPW10498976 Water Valve

Replaces value and ice maker 

Ordered a new part from AppliancePartsPros.com after I could not find it on the original manufacturer's website shipping was fast as I worried about my ice maker burning up during the wait, it was easy to find my part number, and after the part arrived my husband installed and it works perfectly I would definitely order from this website again, thanks AppliancePartsPros.com. 

I called a company to come out and take a look at my icemaker. They wanted $585.00 to repair the icemaker and water valve. I ordered the necessary parts for my Whirlpool refrigerator from you and had them installed for less than half the price. I'm so pleased that I found you! 

Purchased the water valve it came within 2 days, that was at least 5 days sooner than expected. replaced and works as it should. 

With ice maker harness disconnected, and water continuing to drip/run, I hoped for the best that the solenoid valve was the culprit. With new valve in hand (I got the correct valve the first try), I took my time, the R&R process was fairly strait forward. Be sure to have spare compression ferules! The hose-to-ice maker disconnects easily in same manner as do sharkbite fittings. With harness reconnected, water supply back on, no more running water into ice maker, and within a few hours the unit was back to cycling and making ice! Success! Thanks APP.com! 

Purchased a new part, removed the old one, and installed the new one. Fairly simple removable and installation. Remove a few screws on the panel after disconnecting the waterline. Disconnected electrical at the solenoid, removed push connect water line on the bottom side and removed leaking solenoid. Reinstalled the opposite way. 

Replaced valve and ice maker. Everything working fine. Valve replacement took about half hour plus another half hour to clean and vacuum under refrigerator. Resistance test across valve terminals was 100, I believe 300 plus is normal, so valve was bad. Replaced ice maker in bottom door freezer. Removed 4 screws on door and emptied freezer. Plenty of access to remove ice maker. Loosen 2 top screws and remove bottom screw and disconnect power cable and reinstall. 

No ice. Reduced temperature from 4 to 1 for a few hours then started working again. Did order new valve to have on hand just in case. It was the problem. 

I watched a video and was able to switch it out pretty easily. Once the water line is turned off and unscrewed, the part is easily removed after taking off the back panel. The trickiest part was getting water line from valve to ice maker seated correctly. You really have to force it in there. Put all the pieces back together, turned on the water and was good to go 

Due to surge in electrical, replaced two components and due to the elderly party living there they had to use a water purifier for that persons needs even for the ice. They were great customers.
