Symptoms of a bad  Valve include:

  • No water dispensing from the refrigerator
  • Ice maker not producing ice
  • Water leaks or puddles forming under or inside the fridge
  • Unusual noises when the water dispenser or ice maker is activated

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Al for Model Number WRB322DMBM

i see from videos that both thermistors have to be spliced into the old wiring. does today's version of this model offer a plug? also, some other brand refrigerators let you unplug the thermistor and the fridge will fully open the damper automatically. will this occur if the fridge thermistor is cut off or removed for this model? how many times can the thermistors be cut and spliced until one runs out of wire length needed? is there a solution for this please?

1 Answer

Al, the thermistor 12002355 can be cut and spliced as many times as there is enough of the original wire left to splice with. This is generally about 1" of the original wire length for splicing as 1/8" of it would be bare wire. The refrigerator thermistor is available as a part of the refrigerator wire harness W11619328. In regards to the damper automatically opening when the thermistor is not in the circuit, the manufacturer does not indicate if this will happen. Generally, the damper function can be tested using the diagnostic testing mode of the control.

Hello Dave, the ice maker directly powers the water valve for fill, you should get 120v for a few seconds near the end of a harvest cycle at the valve coil with the tan-white wires, if you get 120v replace the valve if not replace the ice maker.

Bill, the icemaker W10884390 will receive 120VAC from the freezer door switch when the switch is in the closed position. The black wire at the ice maker can be tested for voltage to identify if it is getting the necessary power through the door switch. The ice maker face cover can be removed and a jumper wire used in the T and the H ports. Once the jumper is in place, tape the door switch shut and the icemaker should start to harvest. Once the ice rakes rotate halfway through, remove the jumper and test from V port to the N port for 120VAC to see if the icemaker will send voltage to the valve WPW10498976 at the end of the harvest. If it does, the failure would be in the valve. If it does not send voltage, the failure would be in the icemaker.

Mark, With no water flowing to the ice maker you will want to check to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen and if it is then the issue will be the water valve. If there is no blockage then check to see if there is 120 Vac to the valve when the ice maker cycles. If there is 120 vac then the issue will be a faulty water valve, if there is not then the ice maker would be the issue.

Stan, yes your valve coil is in spec range, this valve coil is usually just under 200 ohms, some types of valve coils have higher ohm valves. The next step in testing is to check that the ice maker is sending 120v to the valve coil when it calls for water.

Hello Bill, You will need to pull the refrigerator out and unplug it. You should then turn the water supply off and remove the machine cover. The water valve WPW10498976 will be located behind this cover. The water lines should be transferred one at a time to prevent confusion as should the wire connectors.

Richard, the easiest way to tell if a valve is bad is by testing for incoming voltage during operation. If the valve receives the correct amount of voltage, and the water is on and not obstructed, then the valve would be the issue.

Tep for Model Number Whirlool (WRB 322DMBM00)

I had to replace my water inlet valve due to a crack in the plastic of the valve. Before the valve broke/crack everything was working great with the ice maker After replacing the valve with a new one, the ice was being made but the bottom of the ice cube holding tray had a thin layer of ice and the ice cubs were freezing together. could the new valve installed be the problem (that the water is not totally shutting off inside the valve (bad valve) or is it something else?

1 Answer

TEP, For this issue you will want to pull the icemaker and check the mold to make sure that it is not deteriorating which would cause leaking. If the mold is ok then it is possible that you received a faulty water valve not fully shutting off.
