Fix a refrigerator that won't defrost or has an iced-up evaporator coil. This defrost control board manages defrost cycles to prevent frost buildup.
The defrost heater element looked good and had continuity. The defrost thermostats checked good, so that just left the Defrost Module as the likely suspect. I installed a new defrost control module and thermostats. The thermostats were inexpensive and the old ones could have been intermittent, The only "tricky" part was finding out how to get to the back screw that holds the main control panel. Discovered that the return air duct surrounding the control panel needed to come off. It helps... Read more
Fix a refrigerator that won't cool or has freezing issues. This main control board regulates temperature and system cycles. Moderate DIY repair.
This was a newer GE Monogram side-by-side unit that used an inverter compressor. I removed the inverter and used an ohmmeter to measure the resistance of each of the three windings. They were all very close to one another: about 6.8 ohms per winding. I concluded that the compressor was probably not at fault. The inverter kind of burned or chemical-ish, and, when opened, showed an electrolytic capacitor had burst. I replaced the inverter with an overnight part from Amazon. It was the same... Read more
Fix a refrigerator that won't cool or has temperature issues. This main control board manages cooling cycles, fans, and compressor operation. Moderate DIY.
Replaced the Main Control Board Assembly along with the evaporator and condenser fan motors. I thoroughly cleaned the very very dirty condenser with a 4$ brush offered by the parts specialist and while I was at it, I changed the door seals and replaced one of the door trays. Beats the crap out of spending $10,000 on a new refrigerator that because of Covid 19 wouldn't be here before the middle of November. Thank you Matt for your help! Read more
Range clock or timer not working? This control board restores display and cooking time functions. DIY-friendly with video guide. Fits electric and gas ranges.
Removed the front off the back panel, unplugged the old unit. Then using a blow dryer heated the old timer to peel the face /cover off and applied to the new clock. Plugged in the replacement clock. Replaced the front of the range. The only complaint I have is we were not informed that a new face would not be included and the old one would have to be removed and applied to the replacement clock. The face that was on the orginal clock has the buttons to set the clock and timer reversed from... Read more
Selector knob or dial stopped working? This encoder board translates rotary control input into signals. Moderate DIY repair requires control panel removal.
Replaced the "Encoder Board". My GE Advantium control panel came of fairly easily. There was 2 screws on top to remove a vent director giving access to a single screw that held the control panel in place. Once I removed that screw, I had to slide the control panel upwards by about 1/2" before it came off. At this point, I took several photographs of the wire connections to make sure I could reassemble them correctly... there were many! After unplugging the wire harnesses and connections, I... Fix a dryer that won't advance, runs continuously, or stops unexpectedly. This timer controls cycle progression and power routing. 15-minute DIY repair.
Just as the folks in the comments section said, I tested everything to make sure the timer had power which it did. I then tested with the OHM tester and saw that the switch was open when the timer was set to any drying cycle. So i changed the timer and voila! timer is functioning again. It was a very easy fix. Just pop the four screws out of the back of my timer panel on the dryer, detach all the wires, lift up on the little bracket that is holding the timer in place and twist it, and it... Read more
