Our GE was installed about 8 years ago and was AWESOME for much of its early life. However, progressively its cleaning ability diminished. By replacing all the spray arms (clogged with debris), filters, drain hose, and sump...this dishwasher cleans like it did when it was new! Cost was around $100 (also replaced a wheel and the silverware basket) and labor was relatively simple. And to think...my mother-in-law said, "Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a new one?!?". Pulled down the existing drain tube and installed new one. Tight area so it requires two hands to push up and attach the new tube. The short rubber tubing attached to the new drain tube has to fit snug onto the plastic tube connection that hangs down. Replacement 5/16-inch water tubing that connects the inlet valve to the icemaker. Replace when the original line becomes brittle, cracked, or kinked.
Had to cut the old line at the water storage tank and attach the new one using the connector fitting from the kit. The new line was run on the outside of the refrigerator to reach the solenoid valve on the opposite side. The is no route within the refrig other than under the compressor/motor. I replaced the pump and motor assembly. I also proactively replaced the fill hose while I had the dishwasher out since it was decades old. GE now only sells a generic kit. There were about 7 different sets of directions for different groups of models, and myriad adapters and other parts to support all of them. I wish GE had provided a way of looking up which instructions to use based on model # as that would have saved me a lot of trouble sorting out the instructions, but I didn't find one.... Read more
