Fractured drive gear Keith S. • Warrenton , VA • February 09, 2016
The compactor failed with the ram down, so the drawer wouldn't open which in turn made the mounting brackets inaccessible. This necessitated sliding a thin oscillating saw blade between the cabinet face frame and the counter top to cut through the brackets. It was then possible to roll the unit out and place it on its side. I removed the five screws holding the bottom pan in place, dropped the pan exposing the gear/chain train. The large gear was cracked from shaft out to the edge. One of...

The drawer on my 24 year old compactor would no longer open freely have to pull it open with substantial force Stephen M. • Roanoke , TX • June 17, 2015
Rood Cause #1: One of the front roller bearings was worn out and did not spin freely.
Solution #1: I replaced the two front roller bearing assemblies (both included 2-pack).
Rood Cause #2: The bottom surface of the compactor slide-out assembly had become deformed (convex) most likely due to the repeated force of compaction over the years. This bottom surface rubbed against the lower frame as evidenced by removal of paint (bare metal was exposed). Friction prevented the compactor drawer...

25 year old trash compactor motor quit working Robert O. • Pace , FL • May 18, 2014
Replaced the motor with a direct replacement part. The wiring was not the same because the switch on the motor was different. The instructions that came with the motor were enough for me to figure out what to do.

Did a little homework and found this website, spoke with knowledgable staff who pointed me in the right direction. My 30 year old whirlpool trash compactor roller bearings are "worn out"! L H. • Villa Grande , CA • January 17, 2015
Bot both sets of roller bearings, lower ones on the appliance and the set on the trash can that rolls out. I just followed the instructions that were in the roller bearing package and only needed the tools that are recommended. Was a little tricky with the nuts, really need a person with "small" fingers to reassemble the nuts back on the lower set of bearing that are on the appliance. All in All, went well and works. Found that the new bearings are v. tight on the machine, being new, so, use...

This trash compactor is in our vacation home. We never use it and now we are selling the house. When I looked to replace it I was amazed at how expensive a new compactor would cost. I found the serial number on the current compact entered it and your web site came up. Your schematics were excellent and made the repair very easy!

Ram stuck in down position due to bearing going out Cody G. • Conway , AR • July 16, 2020
I bought new thrust races, a drive gear kit, bearings and a sprocket. When the bearing went out, the thrust races, washers, one bottom plate, and a sprocket was eaten up by the the chain due to the slack being created. I followed the video for the Drive Gear Kit repair and everything went together well. I did have to remove the tracks from inside the compactor in order to remove the cardboard liner that "hides" the drive rods. Additionally, be careful to not over-tension the chain when...

After I was shocked at the price to replace the trash compactor, I was happy to find that the parts, both front & back rollers and the handle, were available from AppliancePartsPros.com. They arrived as scheduled and after viewing two videos, the job went very smooth. I hope it puts another 27 years life into the unit.
