The Evaporator Fan Motor is an OEM replacement part for Electrolux refrigerators. It is responsible for circulating air throughout the refrigerator’s interior to maintain consistent cooling and optimal temperature distribution. This motor works to move air over the evaporator coils, aiding in the cooling process and ensuring that the refrigerator and freezer compartments remain at the desired temperature.

Over time, the evaporator fan motor can wear out or fail due to mechanical stress, dust or debris accumulation, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning motor can lead to uneven cooling or inadequate refrigeration, impacting the overall performance of the appliance.

Symptoms of a bad evaporator fan motor include:

  • Unusual noises such as rattling or humming
  • Inconsistent or inadequate cooling
  • Ice buildup in the freezer or refrigerator compartments
  • The refrigerator running constantly without reaching the desired temperature

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

For Electrolux Motor,Evaporator Fan (Part Number: OEM23815392)

Zach for Model Number LGHB2869TF7

I have a Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator that is currently giving the error code SY EF. After realizing that this is a evap fan issue I checked the fan and it seemed to be running on hi fine. Upon putting the fridge into diagnostic mode and cycling the fan from off, lo, and hi I find that the fan never changed off of HI setting even when turning the unit off at the control panel. I called a repair man at this point to further investigate. Upon investigation he presumed it was the board. Upon replacing the board the error persisted with the fan not cycling so we re installed the old board. After this he tried tracing the wiring (what little is accessible) and did not find any issues but when he tried the diagnostic mode once more it functioned correctly! After the unit ran for about 6 hours then the error code appeared again with the fan not cycling like before. I also took apart what I believe was the evap sensor/thermostat on the top of the freezer and tested it for resistance with it falling in resistance upon coming up to room temperature which leads me to believe it is functioning correctly.

Fridge displaying SY EF. Ordered fan from your store. Replaced and made sure connections secure. Opened breaker for 20 min to clear error. Same error code after a while. Ran diagnostics. Was able to operate all other equipment (lights on/off etc), but using test 15 for the fan = no movement at all for high/low. I then accessed the main board and checked the voltages at the Brown/White and Red/White and got 12 V. Then Brown/White to Blue/White and got about 3 V (per other answers you provided). Next step is to replace main board, right? Thanks.

JCK, Based on the information provided if the motor has been replaced and the wiring is good then you would likely have a board issue.

Jay, if the compressor is operating continuously, the condenser coils would need to be inspected to ensure they are clean as well as inspecting the condenser fan for proper operation. If these check good, the evaporator fan and evaporator would need to be inspected. If the fan is operating and the evaporator is not blocked up with heavy frost, there is a sealed system failure. If the compressor does not run continuously, the thermistor WR55X10409 would need to be tested for resistance and it should measure around 9.95K Ohms at 50°F. If the sensor tests good, the main control WR55X10429 would be the cause of failure.

Teddy, This does not sound like it would be an issue with the fan if it will run for several weeks and then stop. This issue would be more likely with the main control board having a faulty in it.

Teddy for Model Number Frigidaire French Door

I tried to replaced the Evaporator Fan motor for my French door, I bought this from Amazon it won't even run more than 5 seconds.(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FMK277C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), and after I turned off the unit, I put the OEM fan back on, it started running. But this will only keep me running for about 3 or 4 weeks and then I have to power cycle the unit and the fan will start working. What do you think my issue is?

1 Answer

Hello Teddy, please repost your question and add the ref's model number so we can find the correct OEM fan motor for you. If the problem persists after the fan motor is replaced then you likely also need the control board.

Ron for Model Number ew23bc70is1

My Electrolux fridge has a Sy Ef error. Previously a vacuuming of the coils and power reset made the error go away for a few months. Error came back, and the evap fan is dead. I tested it and it does not spin on diagnostic test 15. i also tested it on the bench and 12v applied will not spin it. The question is when i put a power meter to the connect that use to go to the fan, at off, lo and hi, the voltage does not change. it has 12v on the blue and brown and .5 on the yellow, when compared to the red. Would this indicate that the power board is also bad.

Ron, Thanks for the question!!! No, I would say it is safe to just replace the fan.

Warmfridge for Model Number EI23BC80KS2

Freezer is cold, fridge is warm. I'm getting error code SY EF, which I know refers to the evaporator fan motor, which I believe is part 241509402. I'm still trying to figure out if the EF motor is the problem. If the problem turns out to be the control board, is there a way I can buy the board assembly all put together; that is, in its casing? One site I found says that it could be part 5304508251, but when I search for it, it doesn't list my model as compatible.

1 Answer

Warmfridge, the evaporator fan motor 809069220 can be tested at the main control 242115216 for DC voltage. At the connection J4A the black meter probe would be placed at pin 13 and the red meter probe would be placed at pin 5 of the connection J4B. If there is 12VDC, the failure would be the fan motor if it does not operate. If there is not 12VDC, the failure would be in the main control.

Steven, Based on the information provided the clicking on and off of the compressor could be a starting device on the compressor that is bad and would need to be replaced. The SY - ER error code stands for an issue with the evaporator motor or the wiring between the evaporator motor and the board, this would need to be checked.

Al for Model Number KSCS25INSS00

I have a Kitchenaid and the refrigerator is not cooling. I noticed the evaporator fan was twitching and trying to understand what wires can I check for voltage to rule out the mother board. there is a red/blue/yellow/white wires. I don't have the wiring schematic. I also looked at the condenser fan and noticed it will run and go off on its own...is this normal behavior of could it be the mother board acting up? any help is appreciated so I don't waste money throwing parts at it...thanks

1 Answer

Al, there should be 12VDC when testing from the red wire with the red meter probe to the white wire with the black meter probe. If the fan W11671461 is getting proper voltage, the fan has failed and would need to be replaced. The condenser fan motor will operate when the main control calls for the compressor to turn on.
