The Evaporator Fan Motor is an OEM replacement part for Electrolux refrigerators. It is responsible for circulating air throughout the refrigerator’s interior to maintain consistent cooling and optimal temperature distribution. This motor works to move air over the evaporator coils, aiding in the cooling process and ensuring that the refrigerator and freezer compartments remain at the desired temperature.

Over time, the evaporator fan motor can wear out or fail due to mechanical stress, dust or debris accumulation, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning motor can lead to uneven cooling or inadequate refrigeration, impacting the overall performance of the appliance.

Symptoms of a bad evaporator fan motor include:

  • Unusual noises such as rattling or humming
  • Inconsistent or inadequate cooling
  • Ice buildup in the freezer or refrigerator compartments
  • The refrigerator running constantly without reaching the desired temperature

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: THE CHANGE FROM 4-WIRE TO 3-WIRE DOES NOT IMPACT PART

Valerie for Model Number 111.73305910 Kenmore Elite

Hi. I have an Kenmore Elite refrigerator model #111.73305910. I have been trying to find a refrigerator evaporator fan motor assembly part # 30120-0031900-00 and a refrigerator freezer evaporator cover and fan assembly part # 30189-0016300-00. I have been waiting on these parts from searspartsdirect.com for 2 months that have been on backorder with no eta of when they will be in stock. Are there any other parts that can replace these? I really need my refrigerator repaired.

1 Answer

Valerie, That unit is a Daewoo built Kenmore and unfortunately, we do not sell parts for that brand.

I have a Frigidaire Fridge Model # FSC23F DSB0. The number has worn off in middle. Error code E on freezer and F on Fresh Food. Repairman said it was both the evaporator fan Part#241509401 and the Power Board Part#241511102. It stops working but when we unplug then plug back in it works for several hours to only see these error codes come back on. Do you feel like its both of the parts and why does it go back to working properly then after several hours it stops and these codes appear again.

1 Answer

Steve, the error EF is going to indicate a failure of the evaporator fan circuit for the model FSC23F7DSB0. The main control 241511101 can be tested for voltage by accessing the wires at the connector J2. With the black probe of a meter at the brown/white wire at pin 3 and the red probe at the red/white wire on pin 5, there should be a 12VDC reading if the main control is sending voltage properly. If not, the main control would need to be replaced. From there, move the red probe to the blue/white wire and there should be a 1VDC to 5VDC reading if the fan is sending a proper signal back to the main control. If the voltage is not in range, the evaporator fan 809069220 has failed. If the voltage is in range, the main control has failed.

I was given a GE monogram under-counter beverage center that doesn't work and I need help troubleshooting. When I plug it in, the light and thermostat turn on, the condenser runs, and the condenser fan runs. The evaporator fan does not run. The fridge therefore does not cool. How can I tell if the problem is with the motherboard, fan, or something else? I do have a multimeter and when I plug it into the fan I get no resistance. When I plug the multimeter into the wires that supply voltage to the fan, I get no voltage. I appreciate any help as I am a newbie to refrigerators.

1 Answer

RMP, find the power supply board and check for voltage on the K13 connection, you should read 5-12 volts DC with the power turned on. Those wires are Brown and Blue. If there is no voltage, replace the board, if there is proper voltage, replace the fan motor. The board is part number WR55X35325, the fan motor is WR60X10165

Hello Brett, you would need to remove the evap cover and check if the fan motor is still running, if not and the wiring connections are intact this may be a problem with the main control board powering the fan motor.

T. Long, Based on the information provided the error code SY - EF is for an Evaporator Fan Failure. Always check for pin back-outs, pinched or damaged wires before replacing components. Determine whether the failure is caused by the component, main control board, or the wiring.

Hello Michael, if you are still getting the fan fault code after replacing the fan motor and the fan motor wiring connection is clean and tight the ref was unplugged for at least a minute to allow the control board to reset then the next step is to replace the main control board, It is likely when the fan motor failed it damaged the fan motor run circuit in the mainboard, the mainboard is part 242115279.

I have this refrigerator and it is getting warm. They changed the control board about 2 years ago because of the same problem. It was showing the SY-EF code, the same as now. I know it is the evaporator fan or the circuit. So I cleaned out the condenser it was very dirty. Now when its turned on it works but when the freezer temperature gets to 0°F the code comes back and the alarm goes off. It may be the control panel? What do you think I should check next?

1 Answer

Hello Attila, The SY-EF code indicates the problem is with the evaporator fan motor inside the freezer compartment. This fan motor should be checked and if it isn't running, runs slowly, and/or has to be bumped with your finger to start it once you stop it, the fan motor 809069220 in the freezer compartment will need to be replaced.

Hello Carl, the 4 wire fan motors run on a supply voltage of about 12-14vdc, however, the motors internally have a speed control circuit that requires a signal input from the mainboard telling it how fast to run and that speed is also monitored by the mainboard. If the compressor and condenser fan is running so should the evap fan motor, the main control board is part WR55X10942C. Some ref models will turn off the evap fan motor with a door opening, the door switches can be checked with multimeter.

Aleksandr for Model Number EW28BS85KS4

Hello, I was testing power from the socket which leads to evaporator fan by multimeter. The main problem - my fridge showing SY EF or 5Y EF (still not sure if it is '5' or 'S'). I was testing alternating current (AC), one pin was attached the brown wire and second pin I was trying to attach to the yellow wire. Unfortunately I dropped the second pin and it seems like it accidentally toughed the coil (which is located right under the evaporator fan). I was hearing clear snap and fridge turned off completely, even no lights on. I checked the power outlet - it's ok. I plugged my fridge in a different outlet - same thing. My fridge is not up and running like it's not plugged in a power outlet. Could you please tell me what to do, what to check? Thank you

1 Answer

Alek S, The error code SY EF is for the evaporator circuit. check for continuity in the harness to the evaporator motor. check for 12v at J4B-5 & J4A-5 at the control.
