The Defrost Control Board is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. This board manages the defrost cycle by controlling the activation of the defrost heater and the monitoring of the freezer's temperature.

Over time, the defrost control board can fail due to electrical issues, wear from continuous use, or damage from power surges.

Symptoms of a bad defrost control board include:

  • Excessive frost buildup in the freezer compartment
  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The defrost heater not activating
  • Frequent cycling on and off of the refrigerator

This OEM Frigidaire part is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Defrost Control Board (Part Number: OEM13682307)

1 Answer

Robert, This would indicate that the defrost control board is faulty and will need to be replaced.

Tom, the defrost drain under the evaporator would need to be inspected to identify if it is blocked up with ice. If it is, the moisture will collect on the evaporator after a defrost cycle and ice will build up. The defrost drain would then need to be cleared out thoroughly and the drain tubing 241957901 near the compressor would need to be inspected for any pinched sections (replace if there is a pinched or damaged section).

Curtis, With the unit not going into a defrost cycle and the thermostat and heater are good then the defrost control will be the issue and will be part of the control board 5303918340.

FridgeDIY, When you program the defrost test cycle, you're "forcing" the ADC control board into the defrost cycle, you could still have a "glitch" in the board. But "blocks of ice on the coil" could indicate other issues, incomplete defrost, intermittent evaporator fan operation, possibly, a restriction in the sealed system(but not likely) . How long does the refrigerator operate, after you defrost it ?

Tom for Model Number FRS6HR5JQ0

My fridge FRS6HR5JQ0 stays in defrost too long, it was causing my ice to melt then refreeze so it was clumping making it unusable, I replaced the defrost thermostat and it got worse, now it stays in defrost for hours at a time then gets super cold, then goes back in defrost for hours again, I replaced the defrost thermostat again, thinking the part was defective and it is still doing the same thing, I am thinking that the defrost timer is bad, 1- would that be a correct assumption and 2- if so do I need to replace the wire harness ? I see the part is available with or without the wire harness, what would require it to be changed along with the timer ? Finally, is there anything I could possibly have damaged while replacing the defrost thermostat ? I don't see how clipping two wires and crimping the back together but it is odd that while my ice was clumping, the fridge still worked, now it isn't usable and the only difference is that part, and I replaced the first one thinking it was bad, I can't see tow brand new thermostats being bad. THANKS

Tom, The part number that would be needed is the defrost control board 242011001 and it will come with the control board and wire harness. You will want to replace the wire harness that comes with the part.

Hi. I believe the defrost control board went out in my refrigerator. I followed the troubleshooting steps and found that the defrost coil and thermostat both have continuity but the coils still freeze up every 3 or so days and the fridge stops cooling. I watched a video on replacing the controller on here and even though the fridge was similar to mine the controller was not located in that place (Frigidaire side by side, it's not located next to the damper and behind the controls at the top of the fridge like in the video). Can you help me locate it in my model fridge? I am having trouble finding the information online. Thanks

Thomas, The part number for the control board that is needed will be A01078804 which would be the display in the refrigerator.

Jerry, The power for the compressor and fan motor run through the defrost control which is part number 242011001 and will be the most likely cause for the issue.

976Soud for Model Number FRS6LF7JS0

Hello. We have hired three different people to check our fridgidaire side by side after the freezer wouldn't defrost.. They have replaced the control-defrost 4 times and checked all wires stating nothing else needs replaced. Fridgidaire was called and we were told to replace that part once again. Our freezer will still not go into defrost on its own. We can force into defrost mode and now our fridge is super cold.. We are very frustrated as this has been ongoing for at least 4 months. What should we do?
