For Frigidaire Freezer Electronic Touch Pad Control Panel (Part Number: OEM18999918)

Vulcan900nm for Model Number FFU14F7HBB

I have a Frigidaire (model FFU14F7HBB) freezer that we keep in our basement, which recently got flooded with 9.5" of water. Once we got the water pumped out of the basement, I noticed that the freezer was displaying "HI TEMP" and 86 degrees F on the electronic control on the door. The displayed temp actually fluctuates anywhere from 82 to 88 degrees F. It had also been sounding the door ajar alarm, but that ceased once the door switch dried out. The freezer was still running and keeping the food frozen solid. The problem is that it never stopped running, and the compressor was very warm to the touch. I assume this is because according to the display, the control thinks the temp is 86 degrees inside the freezer. I unplugged the freezer, emptied the contents, disconnected each of the electrical connectors and sprayed WD40 in them to disperse any moisture. I removed the start device from the compressor and opened it. It was kind of rusty inside so I replaced it. I ran the service mode diagnostic, and noticed that the thermistor code was t0, which means a short, and also E8 at the end of the diagnostic. I replaced the thermistor, and the new one showed -- which is good. In addition, I tested the continuity of both the defrost thermostat and defrost heater. And, the evaporator fan is running just fine. After replacing the thermistor, I plugged the freezer back in and let it run all night. The next morning, the display still read "HI TEMP" and 82 to 88 degrees F. However, the water jugs I put in the freezer before plugging it in were frozen solid. I re-ran the service mode diagnostics and it's once again showing t0 for the thermistor and E8. I find it difficult to believe that the new thermistor went bad overnight. At this point, I'm thinking the control on the door may be bad, so I've ordered one of those. Any thoughts/help anyone can provide to me are greatly appreciated.

Edward, First check and make sure the interior light is going off, when the door is closed, and the door is sealing. Recheck the connections on the new control assembly. If all's OK, you'll need to check or replace the thermistor 297018400 located on the back wall of the freezer, behind the evaporator cover.

Hello Gene, This is a piece of cake. All you have to do is use a dull, flat tool such as a putty knife/paint scraper, and pry the control out. Pulling it out actually unplugs it from its' socket. Install the new one by lining it up and pushing it into the hole. No special tools, just be careful not to scratch the finish as you remove the old one.

Hello Bill. You will start at the top left corner and unsnap the control 297235200 from the unit. You can use a butter knife to remove the control. It should not break anything. It has three tabs across the top and the bottom.

Hi Kenny.Door Alarm= Whenever the door is left open, the red Door Ajar LED will illuminate. If the door is left open for longer than 5 minutes, the audible alarm sounds. The display will not change. Close the door or press the Alarm Reset key to turn the audible alarm off. The Door Ajar LED remains on until the door is closed. When the door is closed, the Door Ajar alarm time period is reset. If the thermistor(Cavity temperature sensor) is bad it will show E8 or E9 code. If the E7 code will be a fail safe code meaning the stuck keypad. In your case you need to replace the control board assy. part # 297235200. Thank you.The control assembly unsnaps out of the door. You can use a flat blade putty or butter knife to unsnap the unit out of the door. The disconnect the wires and connect them to the new board and snap it into place. Thank You.
