For Frigidaire Temperature Control Thermostat (Part Number: OEM18854724)

Cossy for Model Number LFFH2067DW2

I have a 5 year old upright freezer that has started to run all the time unless it goes into defrost cycle. I have a thermometer in the freezer and it is at -10 to -12 degrees but keeps running. The unit has nothing covering it up on the sides. The sides and top get hot and the compressor is very hot. I get water on the floor when it is in a defrost cycle. I have tried to change the control knob on the inside from 6 to 2 but it keeps running even after a few hours. I can get it to stop running by turning the knob to off or close to it. Any ideas?

Cossy, The first idea would be a faulty Temperature control 5304513033, but there are other things to check first. Make sure the interior light goes out when the door is closed. Make sure the door seals to the front flange of the cabinet, when the door is closed(especially along the bottom) Check and clean the condenser coil on the back of the freezer and make sure there is a 2 or 3 inch space between the coils and the wall for proper air circulation. Check that the defrost drain tube is properly positioned in the drain pan, and the drain pan is not cracked or broken.

Trudy for Model Number PLFU1778ES

We have a Frigidaire upright frost free freezer, it seems to be turning on and going thru its correct cycles. it goes thru the defrost fine. The problem we are having is its not getting all the way down to freezing. If we put something in it that is already frozen it stays frozen but it wont take a thawed item and freeze it solid. The compressor is not running constantly and all the coils are clean nothing seems to be gummed up. Any suggestions as to what might cause it to not get completely cold?

1 Answer

Hello Trudy. If the unit is shutting off, before it reaches freezing temp, you will need to replace the temp control 5304513033 in the unit.

Hello Jackie. If the fan is not running properly it will cause the issue with the unit. You need to check and see if the fan motor is bad and needs to be replaced on the unit.

Hello Bill, If the compressor is running all the time you should first make sure the hot coils have room to dissipate heat from them. If it is pushed against the wall, it will run all of the time. If you have a good frost pattern and the unit has 3 inches between the hot coils and the wall, you should put a freezer thermometer in it to check the temperature. If it runs all the time but isn't getting any colder, you should look for an air leak around the door. If there is none present, you should check the frost pattern. It should be fairly even from top to bottom. If there is a lot more at the top, you could have a sealed system issue.

Unplug the unit before you begin because 120Vac is present behind this assembly. Remove the drip grille and grasp the bottom-most part of the cover. Position yourself with your knee against the freezer door so it will not open and yank sharply out from the door on the bottom of the dispenser cover. This will pop it loose from the bottom. Now raise it up to un-hook it from the top. Now the only thing holding it to the unit will be the wiring. Use your cell phone to take several pictures from different angles to aide in the re-wiring of the assembly.

Hello Jim, If the thermostat were the issue, the fans wouldn't run. This is most likely the start device 216649303 on the side of the compressor. If you remove it from the compressor and shake it, if it rattles, the internal ceramic disk has shattered and the start device will require replacement. To test the thermostat, unplug the unit and flip the thermostat to the off position. Using a test meter set to the resistance X1 scale, test from one wire to the other. It should read no contact. Turn the switch to the full blast position. Now the thermostat should read no resistance, (almost the same as touching the meter leads together).

Syed J. for Model Number Fridgaire Electrolux upright feezer

My freezer works great. The temperature control is set at 4 but the only problem is that it does not shuts off. It shuts off if I turn it to off position or sometimes hit it at the knob and auto starts when needed but it does not stop unless I hit it at the knob or if not, bringing it to 0 or off position. I changed the thermostat but still the same. Do I need to change the controller? Note: It does not have any defrost timer button, just the temperature controller. Thanks

Hello Syed, This sounds like a bad temperature control to me. As much as groceries cost, I would go ahead and change it out.
