Symptoms of a bad Drain Pump include:

  • Water not draining from the washer
  • Unusual noises coming from the pump area, indicating a blockage or failure

For Frigidaire Drain Pump (Part Number: OEM13079829)

Lou for Model Number Frigidaire Gallery Model GLTF1040ASO

Do I have to replace the drain pump? Background: There is water in the tub below the drum and some of the clothes are still after the spin cycle so I checked if there is a clog in hoses both suction and discharge of the pump and there seems none. I run the spin cycle to check if the pump will run and it did. However, there seems not enough pressure that the rubber check valve, sort on the discharge of the pump does even open.

Hello Lou, You will want to check to make sure that there is nothing clogged in the pump and make sure that the vanes are in good shape. If this checks good then you would want to replace the drain pump 137108000.

Hello Karen, You will want to check to make sure that your pressure switch hose is not clogged or kinked. Pull the hose from the lower tub to make sure that there is not debris in the hose that would cause not to drain properly. Also check drain to make sure that there is nothing clogged in drain or drain pump. The Fuzzy blankets can cause heavy lint to get into the drain system and cause clogging.

I replaced my control assembly because a tech diagnosed the washer not agitating or spinning as a problem with the control assembly. After replacing the control panel the washer still does not agitate or spin. The timer otherwise moves through the cycle fine. The door lock lights and seems to work. The pump makes a loud grinding noise but is clear with no debris and the fins are good. It also drains very well. The washer is a front load. Before I plunk any more money into it, could the washers pump cause it not to agitate or spin? Any other suggestions? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Carrie, The drain pump would not cause the unit to not agitate or spin. If it was a spin only issue that could be the case. Where you will want to look it at the spin control 134149220 or the motor 134869400. Check your wiring between the main control and the speed control for broken loose or corroded wiring. Also check between speed control and motor for the same. If this checks good then you can check the resistance on the motor. Disconnect plug on the drive motor and measure betwen pins 4 & 5 in the motor. If the meter reads between 105 & 130 ohms then motor is good. Outside of these readings the motor is bad and needs to be replaced. Disconnect the plug from motor and measure between 1 & 2, 1 & 3, and 2 & 3. This is measing the windings on the motor. All windings should be between 4 and 6 ohms. If the readings are correct then you want to replace the control board.

Hello Teresa. You will need to check and see if it ileaking from the hoses or the front door boot. Then you will replace the part that is leaking on the unit. You can remove the bottom toe panel to access and check this out.

Hello Chuck, You should check the hose 131784700 between the outer tub and the drain pump. Foreign objects and debris will accumulate in there and I have seen good drain pumps replaced and the problem be in here. If it won't drain at the end of the cycle, it isn't draining during the cycle. If you check and it actually is, the problem is in the timer 137394200. On the other hand, I could be misunderstanding your terminology. Is it draining at the end of the cycle but not spinning the water from the load? If this is the case, you could have a bad speed control assembly 134149220.

I have to manually advance my washer through the cycles. It seems to function in all respects fill, wash, drain, spin. I replaced the part #30 (knob). I found on your site that the "knob assembly" could be the problem. Could it be the timer? I can hear the clock working but the washer still does not advance. This unit has been unused for a few years. Can the timer be lubricated? I see in the forum that the pump might be clogged, the washer seems to drain OK. Should it still be checked? Thank you for your advise. Bob

1 Answer

Hi Robert. Clearing the pump allows proper drain so essentially the pressure switch gets satisfied to allow the high speed spin to occur if the door latch stays in a lock position (safety). Timers are not lubricated . During assy, they may have a minute dab of grease on only mechanical pivot points. Since high voltage passes inside the cams, it will create a fire inside if any lubrication is involved. Possibly the timer had damage right b/4 not being in use for awhile ? Timer part # 134014700. Thank You.
