Causes of ignition failure include worn contact points, damaged wiring, cracked ceramic insulators, and loose connections.

Symptoms of a faulty spark ignition switch and harness include:

  • Burners not igniting
  • Burners igniting with delay
  • Burners igniting but flame is low or uneven
  • Ticking noises near the burner area

This OEM replacement assembly is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore gas range models that use the same ignition system.

Jason, You will want to test the ignition switch to ensure that there is continuity in the light position. This will be the most likely cause for this issue.

Cindy, it would be recommended that the burner ports are cleaned as clogged ports can cause improper ignition and heating. The ignitor would also need to be inspected to identify if it glows within 10 seconds and ignites the flame within 60 seconds. If not, the bake 316489403 or broil 5304506545 igniter would be the likely cause of failure (respective to bake or broil cycle not reaching temperature properly).

Sherri, the oven temperature sensor 316490000 would need to be tested for resistance using the two purple wires at the connection P29 on the main control. If the resistance is around 1100O at room temperature the failure would be in the main control 316562004. If the resistance is not around 1100O, then the sensor would need to be replaced.

Bill, Find the switch harness connected to all the gas burner valves and disconnect the very ends of the black and red wires. [no power on] Check for continuity between the two wires when you turn the switch on. If no continuity then replace the switch harness 316580615. If you do have spark at the burner in question then see where the spark arcs to. It should arc towards the burner base. If damaged it will arc in all directions. If you have correct spark and arcs towards the burner then you might just need to clean the burner base. Also if the switch harness has continuity and you have no spark at the burner then replace the spark module. 5304508269
